Most of us knew it would happen. Thieves have to return stolen goods:

This whole deal has smelled of corruption from day one.

What did the US Government have to do with a stolen painting?

Why is Spain getting anything back from International waters?

Is spain paying any of the Recovery Cost?   Yea Right.

I smell Smelt.

The US Government had nothing to do with a stolen painting. You seem to be buying into the Odyssey propaganda.

The thieves have been caught (Odyssey Marine) and not they have to return the stolen goods.

Spain is getting back the stolen items exactly as the Judge stated, as such.

Macconnel believes the case as a whole will ultimately hurt Spanish culture. "Now, when someone finds something underwater that has Spanish interest, they're not going to bring it in to a court. They may hide it," she said.

Yep Next time it will wind up melted down and turned into ingots for cash somewhere on the black market.

A lot of good that's going to do the Spanish then.

How do you figure it was stolen from the Spanish?

bottom line is that Odyssey Marine was found guilty of thievery. The goods have to be returned.

Many internet posters have been saying this for years, now.

Seriously, who cares what the losers/thieves (Odyssey) have to whine about?

Actually... I don't have to figure it/that.

The US Court / Judge has done the figuring

'"The court found it was the Mercedes, a war vessel, and it belonged to Spain. Therefore, we didn't have jurisdiction. It's called sovereign immunity," said legal analyst Jeff Brown. "The court here was to enforce what the 11th Circuit already ruled."

Granted they are a For Profit Company ! but they have done a lot of great work not only finding ship wrecks , but also mapping and identifying vast area's of the ocean floor. also mapping and Identifying parts of the english channel etc.
There have been some gray area's when treasure is concerned also. but the majority of the time the law is on their side.

R.O. - I normally side with you but this is one time. I don't. - I do however respect your opinion to be wrong.  Grin (Joking)

But their ruleing is like the us govt saying u can't keep the coins u find in the park , because they originally were made by us. it's Bull Sh$# , if it's found in international waters then it should be theirs to keep. and Our govt should back them.

Just Saying.

And how many times has our court systems screwed up, how many times has a guilty person walk free and how many times has a Innocent been sent to jail ? ? ?

Our court system is not perfect and in this case it was politically motivated from a foreign govt.

Just my Opinion , everyone has one right or wrong.

Of course... that's your opinion because your "team" lost the game.

In real life... Odyssey has been found guilty of thievery, and must return the stolen goods. Just like MANY of us have been saying these past few years.
