If the wreck is scattering, seems they'd want to find what they could and put it in a museum for future generations to enjoy instead of just enlarging the protected area. In the article it sounds like the locals had a thunting hey day & night right after it wrecked.

Treasure hunting banned at wreck
A wreck off the Cornish coast has been given new protection from divers hoping to plunder its treasure.
Portuguese merchant vessel the St Anthony sank off Gunwalloe in 1527 in a heavy storm.

She went down with a mixed cargo including copper and silver ingots and, it is believed, a princess's dowry, some of which still survives.

Parts of the seabed at Gunwalloe Cove are notorious for their shifting sands which can change in height by as much as 20ft (6m) at a time.

You all know how I feel about shipwreaks!!!!   If you find them you should be allowed to hunt them and historic atrifacts can be put on display!!  Why let them rot at the bottom of the ocean, where no one can learn form them or enjoy them,.

Very good point Dean.  They serve of no use to anyone as long as they're submerged.

I partly agree with that if the wreck gets distroyed then no divers will be able to enjoy it...but the artifacts should be fair game to the finder.  Like Bob Ballard getting all bent out of shape about the Titanic.  He thought he would leave everything there and because it was so deep no one else could see it or remove anything.  Folks like that are just interested in the really rich that they couls sell trips to not the average Joe who only get to see his TV Show...lol...Now people can go to th display and see a beautifuk display to honor the folks who died on that tragic day

Yes you are correct..however I do think that when items are being taken off wreaks..it must be done the right way to presearve the integraty of the site.....The Titanic is slowly rotting...decks have colapsed since he first went there..in a few years there will be nothing but a pile of rust..I say...save what we can now!!!
