Wen you find a shipwreck with bronze cannon, it usually means that it is a virgin wreck.
On this site we found 2 bronze cannon, but there may be more, we only spent about one hour on the site.
The shipwreck probably dates in the second halve of the 17th century.

Not the first, but probably some of the last ones. It is one of the four mentioned in another post. I will leave it for younger people to excavate. Only about 50 feet deep.

Here is an artifact from one of the pirate ships. A bracelet.

This pirate specialized in attacking ships involved in the triangular trade.
He robbed the ships after they had traded their goods for gold and slaves.Fortunately for us, there is a lot of information available about the pirate and his ship. There is mention of him robbing a load of wine from one of his victims.
The slave shackle and the wine bottle fit the account.

Piracy on the high seas is probably as old as seafaring itself. It still happens.
In general it is a very secretive affair, very little of the true facts are published.
Fortunately for history, there are a few exceptions.
The deposition of Thomas Phips, a ships carpenter who had been pressed into piracy, but managed to jump ship and tell his story, helps a lot in understanding how the pirates of the 17th century operated.
