Yesterday, at the forest preserve, I found my second Webelos Neckerchief slide tie clip. I compared both tie clips and noted that, although they are both old, there are differences in style. That signaled to me that they might be from different eras. Any scouting expert in the forum?

Great! Can you post some sites indicating the differences? I have only found the so called vintage one from the 60s at ebay and the boys scout store (the first one I depicted), but that's about it. I just wanna know why are they different.  Undecided

The OLDEST that slide could be would be circa 1967.   That's when the program first changed to put new emphasis on Webelos and started adding specialized uniform parts to make the distinction from "Cub" Scouts and the regular Cub Scout dens.    Too be honest, though, I don't recall seeing many (if any) of that style of slide prior to 1972 when some really radical changes to the scouting uniforms at all levels occured (including the introduction of red berets).

Cyberborikua, I was very active in scouting back when all of these things were happening, which is why I know about them.  But since I don't have any boys and don't have any grandchildren, I've only maintained a perephial interest in Scouting (I'm aware of them and I notice the changes, and I try to encourage people to be involved), so I can't answer your question.

HOWEVER, you've got an excellent resource available to you locally.   The headquaters for the Chicago Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America is located on W. Adams Street.  Every council has one or more professionals or volunteers who have been actively involved in scouting for decades.   And everyone of them loves talking about scouting.   At least one of them will know the answers to your questions.  And who knows you might get an invitation to share our hobby with young people (which may entire result in your getting permission to hunt some of the scout camps in your area).

Don't use the Quick post.

Use the Post at the end of post and at the bottom you will find the attachment goodies.

Joe, I hope you could post you slide. The one on the left is the only one of that style I've seen for sale online and I read that Wolfy has found 4 of those too. The one on the right seems to be more scarce or rare, probably circa 1967 (see BA's posting above). I'm gonna make an effort to contact my local Boy Scout headquarters and find out more about both slides. Indeed, finding this kind of stuff is what keeps me going out for more everytime I have a chance.  Wink

Shocked Holly Cow! Thanks a lot! I'll contact them and find out. If they allow me to share MD with the young folks it would be great and I'd keep all of you posted on it. I must learn more about this hobby though, but I'm willing to learn and teach as I go.  Wink
