Just a penny, but I like it. Pretty good condition for a 1894.

My "just a penny" and your "just a penny" are tad different.

That "just a penny" is worth much more than just a penny or two. Find out  Wink Nice find.  Great

Good find and in very good condition too.
I don't know if you guys know this but it is not a penny......
The United States gov does not issue pennies.
The British do, The USA produces one cent coins.....
They do not produce nickles either they produce five cent coins.
Take a look it does not say penny or nickle on any of them.
I'm pretty sure some of you guys will have something to say about this post. Fight

I do have something to say.  Teach Yes, it is true that the USA has never referred to the one cent coin as a penny, but that is its common name. Now, although the word nickel does not appear on the five cents coins, since 1866 the US has always referred to it as a nickel due to its 25% nickel composition. But the term "nickel"was not first applied to the five cent coins. In 1857 it was applied to the flying eagle cent and later in 1859 to the Indian head cent. Moreover, the three-cent silver coin was replaced by the nickel three-cent in 1865, also referred to as a nickel. The first five-cent nickel was the Shield nickel minted in 1866 followed by the Liberty Head in 1883, the Indian head or buffalo (love this coin) in 1913, and the current Jefferson from 1938 to present, which obverse and reverse have gone through recent transformations. See the US Mint at:

The history of the nickels is indeed very interesting, reason why I love to find them.  Fight

That's not exactly right. I referred to them as pennies all of my life. We called 50 cents what it was, 50 cents, but the coins in my pockets were pennies. Unless I was referring to quantity. Then it was 24 cents for 24 pennies.

Even  here in Australia, where the penny is actually marked as a penny, the collection of 12 of them would be 12 cents or 12 pence - the old pre-decimal term. Nobody here ever called them 12 pennies.

The cent vs penny argument is a big pet peeve for some collectors. It's true that the U.S. coin is called a cent, but the average person refers to it as a penny. Personally I don't make a big deal out of it. For me there are more important issues to complain about.
