chopz, that's on the plus,(?), and Silver Sabre II

The original Silver Saber is just a metal case without any access.

But you are right, a little precise tuning can yield some good result.

Have just checked with a SS for sale on e-bay (with some good detail photos)
and your right...No plastic bung(GB) and there dont look like to be a Threshold pot
through the battery knob hole either.
The IC boards for these are going to be more or less the same  (just component location placement) theres only the 2 adjustable pots inside the SS+,so I cant see any
problem with SS ones.

Have added a photos of the adjuster locations for the SS+ as they may be of use
to someone else.

Thanks chopz,

I do remember this from the Silver Sabre II manual..............

THRESHOLD CONTROL
"This control is placed on the back panel of the detector, since it requires very little usage.
Once the control is adjusted to the desired threshold, it will not require frequent resetting."

So that tuning adjustment is there for the user to tweak when needed.

And from the Silver Sabre Plus Manual.........

THRESHOLD CONTROL
"Located on the bottom of the detector, a small plastic plug may be removed to provide access.
Use a small screwdriver to adjust the threshold sound."

So there's access to the pot but you need a little screwdriver.

.

The original Silver Sabre has to be opened up to tune any of the threshold or ground balance pots.

Simple then. Just the 4 screws on the TOP case.
You only need to undo the bottom ones if you want to detach the board from the bottom casing--which is unlikely.(As you can see in my second photo when I took mine apart a while ago).

Thanks chopz, the pictures are a big help

How long have you had your Redheat?

I've heard of people complaining about that they work "too well"

Digging a 18" deep hole to find a little piece of lead is a bit much.

Not had the redheat that long. The one I have is one of the earlier ones Vic made (1993).
And it looks nothing like his later models ( lightning 4 & X19) looks more like a homemade machine---which they all were anyway!!! I think its a MK I or II hard to tell
as finding any info on these is pretty hard...plus Vic (who made them) died about 2/3 years ago.

I like that photo, that machine can get the job done I'm sure.

I think the machine I heard talk of is an X17, one of those machines that has a tiny little box but very high performance.

It's owned by a bluenoser on the Compass forum.

He was claiming the machine was way too hot, but admitted he needed to work with the machine and learn more about it.

X-19..Not far out  I meant X17.  That X-17 micro was the latest model (after the X-17)
There a bit more complex than mine. Mine just has 2 controls disc and boost. But is very capable of finding non ferrous under ferrous ( a coin under rusty nails).
I did a bit on it on Geotech recently..eventually cleaning all the "hidden" parts and listing them.Which has run into a few pages...and there really keen on building one.
Go to--Geotech-search--posts....

And that my Brit friend is why Compass machines are used by so many, despite the fact that they have not been made for years.

You can tape a coin to a steel washer, bury it, sweep it, and hear only the coin.

The right machine with the right circuitry can really put on a good show when it comes to ignoring iron.

When is the last time you had the Golden Sabre Plus out and about?

What can you tell me about that machine?
