Go Up Go Down

I hunted an old, popular teen dance site yesterday and found this nice Franklin half next to the concrete steps that nobody bothered to search. When I found three wheaties I knew there must be some silver somewhere. That makes my fifth silver coin found this month where there were hunters before (Rosey dime, two Mercs and a war nickle). Used a Minelab XTerra 505....which I am still getting used to.
Today I found another nice Mercury dime and a clad dime that I measured at 10" deep. I almost quit digging but I'm glad I continued....thankfully. The Minelab goes deep.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

nice! and those are in good shape too. Minelab makes good detectors, I have an excalibur 2 and love it although I wont buy another minelab. Too over priced and not good enough customer service (just my opinion) I'll stick with USA made from now on. I bought my excal 2 used or I wouldnt have bought it. I can say that it will do many things my others wont. Its a different detector altogether, but for the type of detecting I do, its not necessary for me living here. I'm moving to florida when my house sells and I'm sure its a beach hunting dynamo. Ive had great luck this summer with my F2 on silver dimes, it wont get 10" on them but I did get one at 8-9" in soaked ground one day! I was amazed. If your getting 10" and the ground isnt soaked, I bet you can get a quarter at 15"? Hope so, good luck thanks for posting!

Those are beautiful. They make the hunting time well spent and the itch to get back
out there and throw some more dirt. Clapp Congrats and good luck on your next hunt

Thanks guys. It is nice finding older coins in places that have been hunted before. I'm just getting back into this hobby after 20 years...I should not have waited so long.
I like the XTerra 505 but it's tricky to pinpoint sometimes and I'm still getting used to the digital "beeping". Somehow I still like the way my old Daytonas found targets but of course the XTerra is deeper and more stable. I wish I could try the Wilson Coin Select but can't contact the company. Also I've been looking at the Excalibur II but it's SOOO much money.
Really surprised at the depth of some targets. The clad dime I found @ 10" was in dry ground...which is why I almost passed on it.

Love the silver you found.  The Franklin halves are one of my favorite coins!  (Also like the mercs!)  Thanks for sharing, and welcome from the Blue Mountains of northeastern Oregon.  Welcome  Welcome back to treasure hunting.

It was nice. Hopefully I can fine some more silver. My goal is to recover 10 silver pieces a month but I'll have to spend some time at it.
