Pgill
Do you know what the Dewetsdorp region is like at the moment with regards to the flooding. I need to get going on this hunt, but I can't seem to find out what the situation is up there.

Hi Pgill

Well I'm happy to say that my detector is finally finished although I will still be doing to mods to it in the future. I went to the beech today to do some more testing and I must say that I'm quite happy with it's performance although I did not find any thing of interest I was very happy to detect a broken fishing hook proof that it does detect small object even with a 280mm coil I found what I thought at fist to be an anchor at 400mm was only a piece of foundation iron and boy that pin-pointer works well too. Tomorrow I will be doing some inland testing to see if I can get it to perform as well as on the beech I don't think that it will perform well but then I wont know till I try it out. I have started to gather the components for your LC meter and still looking for a piece of ferrite for the pin-pointer.

All the best
Xavier

Hi Pgill, Silki,Xavier
Still just the three of us huh? Oh well more hunting land for us.
Tried my hand at electrolysis on a 1942 2 Shilling I found at my farm site. I worked okay.....12v and it went for over an hour. Then I took a flap wheel to it with some Aluminium Oxide......now I'm going to get it graded......just kidding lol!
I think it turned out okay and I think it will add a nice bit of bling to the show case I am planning.
Check it out! HAHAHA, I seriously doubt our coins will even exist in 70 years......just dust! Man they sure made them pretty back then. Kiss

 Sad Now I'm jealous

Here is some info on your town that you are looking for I will be back with more for you just now.

South of Springbok, Kamieskroon is set among the granite rock formations of the Kamiesberg range. The town?s origins lie in the 1860s, 7km north of its present position. It took the name Bowesville (later Bowesdorp), after the district surgeon, Dr Henry Bowe.

As there was little room to expand in the narrow kloof the town occupied, the church council decided, in 1924, to rebuild it at Kamieskroon. Kamies might derive from the Nama word ?kam?, meaning two - referring to the twin peaks of the mountain. The ?kroon?, a 330m peak crowned with a huge, cleft rock, is a kilometre from the village.

Hi Xavier
Yes my mate tells me that he goes and walks around the ruins of the Church in Bowersdorp. There is also a koppie called Spieel Berg, apparently the British used it as a mirror signal site and the little shelter is still there as well.....lol!
I am looking for references of the Boer War to the area .......maps in particular. anything that has that region on it. Photo etc also cool.
So you like my coin......well I seem to be the King of Silver....hoping to move on to my gold wings soon. I can tell you the anticipation is killing me!
I have to start doing some preservation on my artifacts tomorrow. Funny how one tends to forget to do it.
