gautenglion,

Sorry we must of posted at the same time  No no!

That place you are going to sounds like real fun.... Where are you living in England?Huh?? I came from Northampton, but left when I was 13 years old....  Shocked

The laws here at this time are very lax as they do not have the money to control anything..... In fact all the national monuments are getting badly neglected, and nothing is being done about them.... It is a pity  Angry

Hi Pgill

I live in Grimsby on the east coast of England. I suppose i have the best of both worlds here. On the one side is the coast and the other side is all the farmland.
Do you ever get chance to come back to the Uk then.
Ill try to upload a photo of the area that i am going to try.
I know all about the monuments getting destroyed there. We used to go to the one near the Engen( Thats what it was called ) going towards Vereeniging from Alberton. Its such a shame that it happens but like you said there is no money(Yeah right, more like being diverted into some fat cats pocket) and people destroying it for scrap or building material.  The law here is really strict and they do protect their heritage sites.
I can remember going to see the nice water feature in joubert park in joburg. All that remains is a dirt square now.

Here are a few shots of the area

Go Up Go Down

Hi Guys,

Sorry about the lack of report, but blame Telkomsa as my line has been down for a week......

Here we go then  Grin

I managed to drive for an hour to meet the one and only Xavier, and oh boy what a character... looks just like his avatar  Great fantastic person, along with his sister who also is very nice.....

The farm is amazing, and BIG..... Xavier rode me around for a tour of the farm on a quad bike, nearly putting me on my butt, oh and enjoying that  Angry (he has a funny sense of humor)  Idiot

Well it just happens that Saturday was the day of the Sheep Sheep Sheep Sheep Sheep Sheep Sheep all 103 of them..... They just happened to pick up a bug, and needed medicine  No no! Well the one and only Xavier was in charge of the gate and the marking pen, his sister was ramming the medicine down the  Sheep throat.... while the farm hand grabbed the sheep and held them down.... after the medicine, the  Sheep got marked with the marking pen so that we knew which had been done...... My BIG and important job was to click the counter so that we knew how many had been done...... All this took hours  Thumbs Down but eventually we ran out of medicine and had to Cop

We then had lunch which was very nice  Shame hahahhahahaha it was hamburgers.....  No no! not sheep burgers.....

We then went to Xaviers room and fixed his detector.... we then tested the detector, which is amazing...... It picks up the garage door at 3 meters away....... we had good fun testing it out......

Then finally we got to  Detecting we walked out into the field and started walking...... Oh boy, you cannot believe the junk in the land.... eventually after digging many holes, we moved away from the field to the side of an old house ruin...... We ignored the iron signals and only dug the higher signals on the Ace 250  Detecting  the photo tells the story, we found a small jewelery alloy disc, and a part of that just a couple of small items......  Shocked what we need is another detecting trip..... But the next time at a Boer war site......

In the end, the trip was great as I got to meet Xavier, and a lot was talked about..... I am scared, very scared  Laughing as we are more like each other than what I had thought we would be......  Wise I really enjoyed the trip, and all of us need to do this more often.....

Hi Pgill
Nice post thanks for the scoop, Xavier looks tall! Pity about the finds but the little piece of jewelery is pretty interesting.
Went to a park on Sunday morning. I didn't do so good but my friend Jorn, pulled out a nice silver ring on his first hole and later he found a 1921 One Penny. I got some old 2c and 1c pieces, a really big brass bullet casing marked X and 1, a old brass door knob and some other bits and pieces. I really wasn't at my best. And I was a bit nervous about digging in a new park. But it seems okay. My hands got pretty shredded though because there are a lot of thorns and they fall into the hole as you dig......hurts like hell!
I 'll be back at it this weekend...maybe a water hunt.
Viking

Hi Guys,

Had another day out with Xavier yesterday.....   Great we went climbing a mounting and detecting on top of it..... The mountain was Pardeberg Mountain (Horse Mountain) in Walkerville..... The Boers used to take their horses up there so that they would not get killed by a virus that was being transmitted by mosquitoes. Only found modern day shotgun backs and two R1 bullet cases..... and on top of the mountain a pull-tab?Huh? We had such fun......

{alt}

We had to have refreshments after all the hard climbing....

{alt}

Wonder what this is about.... maybe a gold coin cache  :Smiley

{alt}

Part of the camp that was built on top of the mountain.

{alt}

The days finds, Xavier had battle with his coil, so more or less gave up  Cry
