Arfieboy, the detector is a Garrett Ace 250.... I plugged in the headphones to do some test on my battery pack (So I would not disturb the wife  Cool  ) all worked great until I unplugged the headphones..... Now there is no sound, and if I switch on the detector it works but without sound.... If I switch off the machine, I have to remove a battery and then re-insert the battery to switch it on again  Angry otherwise it will not switch on  Cry I can see this is going to cost me  Exhausted

I think X is going to bring his other machine along in case I have to use my other machine, but then he battles in the type of ground that we are detecting.... so bad news for both of us I guess  Shame

Hi Boys
Been hectic busy again, got a market at end September and end October so I'm making stock like there is no tomorrow. Oh dear Pgill.....now you see if you had bought a Fisher or Teknetics machine from me you would not have these problems Wink Wink.
Nice finds there.I went out for an hour or so yesterday and pulled out a badly worn silver shilling and a near perfect condition British 1944 three penny and some other junk that's not interesting at all. I got myself a nice new coastal site hehehe! Loads of stuff there but Ice cold and really hard work. It's right in the cold Benguela current. Half an hour hunt and 45 mins defrost then start again lol!
Keep well guys and leave my bloody gold alone!!

Hey Viking, thought you had left town  Cheesy good to hear from you again  Great sounds like that site of yours is productive? The two sites X and myself are doing has been good to us  Wise

I wish I could get a better machine, but you need money to do that..... That is something I do not have at this time, so the Garrett has to do  Clapp I must admit, it has done me well so far. Not sure but I think that the power pack that we have made to run this thing has gone faulty and has raised the voltage too high and blown something. Oh well to the agents for repair, bank account will be smaller  Angry

Go Up Go Down

Hi Guys.
Okay here is what happens when I disappear like that. I delete email notifications off my BB then I don't receive any more notifications at all. I think the forum has gone quiet.....I get busy and distracted.......then one day I decide to just check and see what's going on  and I've missed like 3 or 4 pages of posts.... :- Idiot.
Big storm here as I am typing......9-10m swells heeeeeeeeeyyyyaaahhhhhhhh!
I hope it's going to tear the coast up real good........will go and scout tomorrow and take some pics.
It's freezing down here though.....will have to wear two pairs of trousers and some jackets over the wetsuit. But that's all in a days hunt hey? I don't care if what I find is not of any monetary value....as long as it's OLD.........I'm getting to be quite good at the whole preservation game, it's cool for me because the hunt kind of continues long after you have left the site.
I suppose it's instant....and extended gratification!!
I'll post some pics tomorrow....let's all keep em crossed that there is a major sand shift, as up to now we have been pretty sanded in all round.
Hot chocolate and google earth....here I come!

My shilling turned out to be a 1915 Half Crown. It should weigh 14.10 grams, mine weighs 5 and you cab still see some detail, even the date is still visible.
This is quite a bonus I think, world war 1 times . The swell didn't seem that big today, so I am hoping for a bigger swell tomorrow.
Anyway here is a pic or two of the finds from my last hunt. I had forgotten about the two 1960's half cents....these came out of the same hole, but one has a hole in it as though it was used on a chain or something. Weird I thought.

Some more. The half crown stank SO BAD when I electrolysed it and it turned the container so black I emptied it out four times. But the stench was something to behold........
Would be nice to know why Huh?
Chat again

Hey Viking nice to here from you again. I'll be wanting to get a machine fairly soon probably in the next two months  Kiss at the moment I'm checking out all the options and different type of machines. Peter and I went hunting today nothing great to report but we had a good time.

Hey Viking, finds look good  Great pity the sea and sand damages them so bad  No no! I think the electrolysis goes black because of the silver in the coin...  Idea Use aluminum foil for cleaning silver....

X and myself went back to our small house. We did not find a lot of stuff, but I did find a stirrup, horse shoe and a great nail  Kiss plus two harmonica reads and a bird ring from 2004... Umm, not sure where the bird is though  Funny Funny Funny

X picked up a buckle which needs some electrolysis on it, but I think it will turn out great  Great

Anyway, before we went detecting, I had to teach X how to drive a tractor and pick up grass bales, the things I have to go through with him  Shocked at least after I had finished with him, he was driving like a pro  No no!
