Darn Xavier...how in the world did you break your elbow...I could see if you were here in Brooklyn with all the snow and sometimes walking is like being on ice skates. I sure hope you get well quickly...Jim

Hi Xavier,

I told you not to swing that detector so hard  Detecting small swings does the job just as well..... Sorry to hear that, I really hope all will go well with the repair  Undecided How did you manage such a thing?

Jimmy you guys in the USA and in England are having a rough time with all the snow..... Lets hope it clears up soon, so you can get some detecting done.

Thanks Peter....this stuff just won't go away. Predicting another 9 to 15 inches tonight into tomorrow. Problem is Peter, the snow plows have no where to push the snow. Cars are everywhere and some people here just won't leave their cars parked on the side of he street. I can almost guarantee that by tomorrow morning, people will have abandoned their cars right in the middle of the street like the last storm. It's snow fun (pun intended) shovelling AGAIN! Jim
PS: I hope to have some pictures of the before and after....

Eina , I'm sure that must have hurt! Hope you have a speedy recovery, maybe you should use the time to practice swinging with the other arm!
PGill
Judging by the video you posted of the old Kraal site, you have about 10 years worth of ground there....excellent He He!
Jimmy
Wow , I love the cold but that is ridiculous. I hope you folks catch a break sometime. Nice and sunny here in Cape Town....just that darn wind.

if anyone is interested.

Farm Hunt
Seems I am on for a hunt in the DeWetsdorp area .....site of British occupation , old farm that has a treasure legend attached to it.
I will be hunting on behalf of the family and hopefully I find some cool stuff. The cache I'm after is apparently around 300 gold coins in a box the size of an old railway lunch box.
Iv'e been told the direction the individual walked of in and I know quite a bit about what happened on the farm , what was taken by the British when they got there etc.
There is a foundation of the old school house that was on this farm as well. The owner of the cache was the school teacher and also held rank in the Boer Commando , he was killed while out on patrol and his body was returned to the farm and buried there.
That's my news
Viking

Quality or Quantity?

While detecting today, I wondered, do you try and cover as much sand as possibly in the shortest time, or is it better to take it slow and do a decent scan of the area that you cover?

Re my find today. I did a 1 hour search on dry sand and found 5 coins. Considering that I have a "toy" which will detect up to 6" on dry sand, and none on wet sand.

Have a look at the R5, with the amount of patina on the coin, do you think that it is a coin of "last summer".

Thanks

Jimmy, those conditions are disgusting  Idiot I do hope it is over soon for you..... That was one thing I hated in England was the snow......

Viking, that place and story is fantastic..... Please keep us in the picture on what happens....

That Kraal is one of 5 in my area, and very big..... I rushed through that one on Saturday just because I was filming.... I wanted to make sure you guys got the idea of the place.... If all goes according to plan, this Saturday I will be back there, and swinging much slower.... I am going to grid the area, and work it slowly.... More film will come on my griding methods.... etc.... That will be a tutorial.

Flamtech,
Well done on the finds..... As I said above, sometimes you just have to rush about due to time constraints etc.... but if you can do a small patch at a time it is better... Sometimes I run around for about 15 minutes, and then take my time on the best place that I had during that short time.... Hope that makes sense....

I am going to put a tutorial on griding onto film at the weekend if the weather permits.... So keep an eye out for that one on my website...

Hi IndiBean,

Hope you are keeping well?
