Go Up Go Down

I heard first-hand about a large amount of copper cable dumped in upstate New York back in the '80's. He was working for the power company and cut a piece too short, so rather than take the heat from his boss, dumped the loose cable into the Chenango River. From what he told me the "piece" was about as big around as your wrist. It was the size that  comes on those big wooden spools that you see trailered behind a service truck.

Copper is a treasure. cut and paste the first three words into a search engine, and you will see how prevalent copper stealing is.

I know its bad in our area, the city of Houston had reports of 114 thefts in 3 weeks. But what Dustcap is looking at is salvage.
I sold some lead and brass last week and had to fill out a paper and show I D never had to do anything like that before

I'd call it treasure - are you planning to recover it?

Definitely qualifies assuming there is enough there to cover your costs and make a bit of profit.

One thing about wire salvage you will likely have to strip the insulation off to get max value for it. Still for a big chunk like that could be a nice profit if not too hard to recover.  Smiley

I work for the phone co. and have had all the service wire removed off my truck and half the other trucks in the yard in one evening.Phone co. and electric co. garages are top spots for cable thieves.

Yep, it is a treasure. Seldom the rec yards here hold the money for three days for anything over $20 and then they give you a check for it
