Hello Rick55 , what you do is unplug your existing serch-coil that came with the Whites TDI detector , and with a decent accurate ohmeter measure the D.C. resistance !! Say for example you read 2.55 ohms . So 2.55 ohm reading on your connector is the value that does not change !! Meaning , any new coil you wind no matter what size must read 2.55 D.C. ohms also "No Exceptions" ..If it is a mono coil 2 pins will have a reading of low resistance . I am not sure if that machine uses anything other than a "Mono Coil" ? Someone here 2 weeks ago posted a great chart of P.I. coil inductances which is handy to have . Anyway hope this helps a little !!

Anyone else is sure welcome to comment here . I heard The new Whites TDI is a good Machine is it ?

 Wise Wise.............................. Waveing........................Eugene52

The Whites TDI is a very good machine accurate and deep, also I have my own test bench three Oscopes,LCR meters, Fluke 116 and a Meterman 137, function generator and frequency counter, so I should be able to ohm out the coil, the connections I was talking about were to the metal detector it self, send ,receive ,sense, where they go on the connector.

Hello Rick55 , That is a GTI 2000 on my avatar . The reason I use it as an avatar is because Garrett sold the GTI 2000 for $679. And when they found out it worked as good as the GTI 2500 for $150. dollars less , they stopped production on the Great GTI 2000 . Why buy something for $679. When you can spend $834.  Grin Grin Grin . In America we sure Love our CEO's !!! Anyway , it sounds like you have a complete and Great Electronics Lab , so please count the number of pins on your connector and let us know . I am sure you can figure out every thing you need with the test equipment you have . Thanks for your contributions here on Thunting.com !!...............Regards................Eugene52

Hello , before I start posting search coil data / information . I will post a little information on coil sheilding used to make a search coil more efficient , reduce signal falsing like on wet grass , salt water or on salty beaches ..... Next I will try to post where to buy plastic coil housings or "search-Coil forms" . Here are various types of shielding you can use when making your search coil. These are examples that have been used .  Other Thunting members can add to this list also !!!
 Great............Eugene52

1. Graphite Based Shielding Paint
2. Copper Coated Fabric Tape
3. Aluminum Duct Tape
4. Epoxy Graphite Mixture
5. 3M Scotch #24 . Braided shield 15 foot length ****Best choice ***
6. Nickel Spray Coat used as a faraday shield . Comes in Spray Can .

Also some great reading from Whites , 3m and again coplaner information !

Hello Everyone . I know of two companies that sell search-coil housings or plastic forms/shells . I will post one link now , this first one I am sure  , most of you have heard of !! The average price of a housing sold here is around $12. U.S. Dollars . There is one more company in Europe that sells the same products for half the price . I am searching for their website now. If anyone else knows of other companies that make search coil housings , please let us know..................Regards..........Eugene52
