anyone out there can give me advice on what to do to stop the water flowing from the tunnel my friends excavated in the philippines. they are about thirty feet deep in their excavation when they hit this water trap and they cannot stop it from flowing. they only have one available submersible pump they are using and its not enough to get rid of the water. they already see the chamber but they have problem stopping the water. Any great ideas to stop it other than using several submersible pumps. thanks for anyone who has experience with this problem.

No need to use the submersible, use compressors that can be used by divers. Be sure the divers knows to use the compressors to breath through a hose coming from a compressor. It is hard to rely on submersible, if there will be a sufficient water you cannot stopped the water, it will be on its normal level. So the best is to avail divers who could look for the outlet inside the chamber. In a site with water can be more likely safer than those with out water. Poisons and other perceived traps can lessen the effect or even neutralized by the presence of water.

Good luck

Hi Rbelino,
Ya we had the same problem, the water trap usually has a reservoir of water feeding the water trap usually located at a slightly higher location to that of the the site. In our case we built a wall between the shaft wall where the water was coming in, and used two pumps to keep the level down. But this is not the only solution.
You must find the source of the water which is usually a man made pool or small lake with thousands of litres of water stored in it! In a tunnel or cave system higher up the hill or mountain. The water is piped into the shaft via bamboo pipes or concrete ones. Cut off the source here and you will be OK.
send me your email add. and I will send you a drawing to your solution. tried to attach here but file is too big!
Good Luck.
God Bless

Golden Eagle

Thanks for the reply Golden Eagle.
My email address is.......rebreb_425@yahoo.com
I'll appreciate it so much if you can send me the drawing you had mention on how to stop the water trap. i guess you had a lot of experience with this and can give us ideas. But as a show of appreciation we'll let you know if my friends has been succesful of retrieving the item of which they believe is about 400 t0 800 kilos based on what they seen the size of the chamber. i'll send photos too, but for now they still using low quality pumps made in china. and they are hopeful it would do the job of which i doubt it. hopefully with your diagrham, they would be able to stop the water trap.

Sincerely
rbelino
