Finally, I got my Cokin filter system with IR filter and the properly-sized step rings. Now all I need is the sun to come out from those grey skies and see if this works or not. Anyone had experience detecting auras when the skies are overcast?

Is the Cokin filter system with IR filter easy to obtain or did you have difficulty in finding it?  Please report if you have success, (when the sun comes out),  I'd be interested in purchasing same.

regards Diggerbarns

Dear Diggerbarns,

The Cokin filter system and step rings were easy to obtain from a well-stocked photography shop in the big city.

Actually I had already ordered a set of 3 IR screw-on filters from a China seller in eBay not long after I bought the e-book on gold auras and IR from David. The 3 filters never got to me after a lengthy wait and I decided to settle for the Cokin system which I could obtain from real brick-and-mortar store. BTW, this same system was used by the author of the e-book.

Attached is a photo of the Cokin system attached to my Panasonic handycam. It's an older model, but can "see" the IR flashes of my tv remote, so it should work. I will post my results be they positive or negative. You should not wait for me though, because the Cokin system is affordable, you may get better results in your area, and I really don't know when the darned sun will come out again! I hope you'll post your results here too. Smiley

Thank you again for replying.  I will set out to seek and purchase filters and will most certainly post results.  Wish you sunny days ahead and success.

You are most welcome, Diggerbarns. I've buried a gold ring in the garden today. Will give it 3 days time to develop an aura and see what kind of photos I get after processing with Arcsoft and Picasa. Hope to post the results on 12th Dec, and good luck with your trials too. If this works, it can be a very handy tool in the field. Nothing ventured, nothing gained! Cool

PS if this does not pan out, we can always use the filter to take weird landscape photos or X-ray thru clothing.  Grin

You don't need the Sun to obtain auras.  I have photos of auras taken during light rain!  And Louis Matacia suggests taking Polaroids in fog is a good way to obtain auras.

Mindfree, the little flag on the left of the screen represents where I live: Malaysia.

Yes David, I will try taking photos in all weather conditions to see the appropriate effect. I was waiting for the sun because the e-book said the aura would be stronger during the hotter parts of the day. Just had an idea...there's a patch of beach where they used to repair boats. There should be a lot of old metal in the sand from ages ago. I'll take some shots there, process and post them here.
Went to this patch of beach that is a detectorist's nightmare....chock full of iron targets and other trash. The attached zip files are photos taken with the IR filter on. No editing other than resizing in Picasa to 640x480 at 50% quality was done (to make the file size smaller). I then used Arcsoft's Photoimpression 4 (it was bundled with my Panasonic camera) to auto-enhance and no auras were visible.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong. May I ask David or anyone else who has more experience to try their hand at bringing out the auras of the trash metal? Please feel free to distribute the results and post them in this forum if they're worthy of notice. Thanks!
