Go Up Go Down

Hello all,

Excited to get away from the concrete jungle and daily grind I hurried home. The next morning I rose early and headed to one of my favorite meteorite hunting spots. Even though it was very cold it was a beautiful morning. The sun was just peeking over the mountain tops as I started swinging my detector. A slight breeze settled in which added to the fresh mountain air. I hunted hard and managed to dig up a few small meteorites between 3-6 gram range by 10:00 am. Then I got a signal that was super loud and strong! At first I thought it might be an old can or piece of junk metal. As I dug down I Saw a few roots and still had not uncovered the target. A good sign! Then I saw a glimpse of the target, a meteorite! Here are a few pics of my find. A 4.5 billion year old siderite meteorite! Enjoy the pics all and good hunting!  Detecting

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Congrats; An amazing find. In my early days, I found a chunk of iron and kick myself to this day for leaving it behind. I thought it might be a meteorite years later.

Berntout, thanks. They are all unique looking and have a lot of character.

GoldDigger1950, Yeah, if you can find it. I think it's still by the covered up hole.

Mindfree, thanks. I have never heard of any meteorites being radioactive but you never know.

Driftwood, thanks for the nice comments. Now days I keep everything I am not sure of. I have also left finds behind which I still wonder about!

Tired old man, Gold is what I am going to try my hand at for the first time this coming summer.

Bugar, how goes it my friend. Thanks! Yeah the Z-Man is chomping at the bit and roaring to go! That's a huge hotrock you are standing on! To bad it is not a meteorite! Keep swinging you will find more meteorites before you know it!

Racedaddy, thank you.    Thanks all! Good hunting.     Ironman
