The eddy current collapses immediately, no delay. No kidding. That eddy current field collapse induces a current flow in the gold object which creates another, smaller series of eddy currents which create ever tinier fields. Those are the ones you detect. The size and shape of the object will determine how long the current flows and how many times this repeats until the current is just too weak to create another eddy current field.

Your smaller gating will probably cause you to miss some larger objects. Pity, that. Perhaps we both should experiment a bit more. We can get to the bottom of this, Watson!  Shocked All we have to do is look closer!!

Your right on the Ringing.

As long as it can find a 1/8 gram nugget more then 6" down I could give a hoot! Great

This mode has not  changed the larger stuff.

It just got hotter.

So I am back to the original question... can I make it work... what would happen if I don't change the resistors? =)

Nothing larger is being missed.

Next step is a Spiral Etched coil like Tesoro uses.

Just need to figure out how to plot one.

Make what work?

The other coil?

Do you have a oscope?

You would need one to find the right Damping resistor.

I am trying to go from the first type of coil to the second.... I don't know much about the model you are telling me about... are they alike?

In your first photo I see that the coil does not look like the proper coil for the XL. Did you buy it second hand or new?
