Hello I've also heard the garrett is one of the best too! I'm seriously considering buying one myself. Thanks for the tip.

Bitburgaggie, thanks for the info.

Is this machine better suited for any particular terrain or for searching for something more than something else ?

I recently pulled my old Deepseeker out of retirement.  It sat in the garage and collect dust since the late 70's.  Some fresh batteries and it worked like the day I bought it.  Cost was $300 (expensive for then) and I was told it was the "Cadillac" of MD's.  I have NEVER been skunked in finding something with that detector.  Always coins and a ring or two, some old farm tools and lots of square nails.  I have the manual too, somewhere in the garage.  I still have the 12" coil as well.  Fine machine and will never part with it!   Kiss

I still have my old Deepseeker from the late '70s but it must be "pre-ADS."

What was ADS all about?

Not sure Mudfoot.  Mine is a Master Hunter VLF/TR (controls on side, push button, deepseeker on coil) and was made around 1978.  So mine must be pre-ADS, but can't find what it means.

ADS (Automatic Detection System)

You could / can with the flip of the toggle move from VLF, Ground Bal,,,,,VLF, Discrimination,,,,TR Discrimination.

They also have a Auto Track feature that maintains the Threshold tone to a constant level.

This does not Track Ground Bal.

Thanks for answer Homefire!

ecviggy, it sounds like we have the same machine.  Mine still works fine but I wish I had bought the armrest attachment for it way back then.

Right there with you.   My day on the beach was cut short from wrist/forearm exhaustion.  I considered pulling the box off and switching with my nonworking bounty hunter.  still may.

Go Up Go Down

I used the Deepseekers for years.  They were THE detector as far as I was concerned.  Then I let myself get lured away by the newer machines.  It turned out that I was sorry I ever sold my oldies.  I recently bought a Grand Master Hunter CX II and a Master Hunter ADS on Ebay.  My Ace 250 will become my wife's as she has expressed a desire to give detecting a try.  Or, if she has the patience to learn how to tune an older model I may sell the Ace.  There are quite a few older detectors showing up on Ebay.  The Garretts seem to command a premium price over other brands for some reason.  Here's a quick piece of advice about buying a machine on Ebay.  Don't bid unless the seller states he has checked the machine out and it works or that he will take it back if it doesn't.  I see way too many listings that say something like "I don't know anything about detectors so I don't know if it works" or "I put batteries in and it seems to work".  Then they also have it as a "No Return".  That raises a large red flag for me.  I wonder if they would buy a car without knowing that it would start and drive down the road?

John

Go Up Go Down

I'm really sorry to say that after having my Garrett Master Hunter Deepseeker since 1978, it was stolen out of my truck the other day.  While my homeowners insurance gave me a fair price for my loss, it was and is still heart breaking.  I can never replace my old friend of such a long tenure.  I have ordered a Garrett Scorpion Stinger, but it will never replace my "friend".  Being interested in gold prospecting, it was my choice of something I could afford with replacement money.  I also lost my new ace 250 and it will be replaced as well.  I'd love to catch the thief so I could make he or she hurt the same way he or she hurt me.   Angry
