The older model Garrett Deepseekers with the push button on the handle (Garrett changed this to a toggle switch later) was absolutely the deepest and strongest detector I have ever had the privilege to use--BAR NONE!!!  My first one had a 10 0r 12 inch coil and could air test a Minie ball at an impressive 20 inches or more from that coil...son, that baby could get down to business on ground depth. Unfortunately, I wasn't a fan of the 10 TURN GB and traded the unit off for a new hunting bow when Bow season came back around-ha!

Yep, I'm One of those geezers. Started hunting in 69 with a $19.00 mustang metal detector.  I have one of those old deep seekers by garrett. It is a "Ground Hog" from the 70"s , It still works.

Of all the detectors I've owned over the years, about 40 to be exact, the one machine I regret no longer having is an S3.    That was a beautiful coin/jewelry machine.   The depth was only moderate, but the electronics were as stable as any in the game.   Once you set the tuning and ground balancing you were there.   Never drifted.  Couldn't say that about my White's 6000D series 2 or my Fisher 1260X.

Unfortunately older Garretts don't come around that often, I don't think.   People that have them hang on to them or pass them down to the next generation.

Yep, those older Garretts were better than these newer Garrett models, I'd say...at least depth wise. ADS DEEPSEEKERS RULED ON DEPTH AND STILL DO! BUT I HATED HAVING TO GROUND BALANCE THEM ALL THE TIME.

Well, I have a garrett groundhog with the push button and I cannot find out how to use it.  Can anyone help?  I did find the manual for the toggle style.

I say the old 15 Khz was the best.

They Switched to 5.5  that rocked for the coin folks and that was the end of the good old Garett!.

The old time Ground Hog and S3 type was hot as hell on VlF.
