Thanks Ridge Runner! Seems I've been dissuaded from the Scorp'. I'm glad I bought the TGSL even more now. And my feelings are fine Smiley. I might never buy anything else if my build is successful. Would you all like me to post images/descriptions of production when I start it? Could be useful to other newbies like me.

Also, since I plan to roadtrip a lot by motorcycle I will devise a collapsible structure to fit in a small bag to put next to the tent and roll-up mattress. I like being a helpy helper! Maybe I shouldn't announce something that might not actually happen.. We'll see.

Post as much as you like about it because there are a few very clever people here they might be able to help out
in some way and vise versa,

the important thing is you getting the help and just enjoying your self,
Go for it, Mate

I Hope I was clear and not offensive to anybody.  Wink

Not offensive at all denizen in fact well said. The problem with getting us to recommend detector A or detector B is that more then once it has bite us in the butt.

If you go to youtub.. you will notice many people post videos of their finds and I think it's great. I think it more than advertisement for the hobby but it also shows you locations that one might try. There is also one guy in the UK that shows all the different MD from different manufacturers and he test them thoroughly. Too bad they are most newer machines and don't list the Scorp.

As for people not showing off their finds to someone they don't know..... to each their own. I was thinking this hobby was more of a show and tell because the world is a big place and there are many locations one can look in without stepping on anyone else's toes.  Isn't it fun to show off your finds?

Wouldn't it be selfish to keep your finds to yourself? It's like creating a great song and only playing it for close friends. Kinda?

Unless you had something to hide, that would be a good excuse.

Anyway, I am still looking for someone that own the Scorp to show what it can do like they show other models online. It's a shame they haven't improved it like they did with the Fisher Gold Digger.

Awhiles back, I was agonizing over whether to get a Garrett Gold Scorpion Stinger or some other machine. In the end I went with a Fisher Gold Bug Pro (the cost was much more but IMO, the easier ground balancing and zippy dual processor performance makes it worthwhile)...and I love this little wonder to bits! No disrespect meant to the tried and true tech of the Scorpion.

For what it's worth here's some info on the Scorpion:

1) It's not USD500...it's much cheaper than that and the low price was what attracted me in the first place. Try surfing to

and asking for the price WITHOUT the "free" gifts. You'll be surprised. They used to have a Paypal link on the Scorpion's page which you could click to see the price without the gifts, but now you have to phone and ask.

2) There is a forum dedicated to the Scorpion at

. Plenty of info there if you search and/or ask.

And in passing, when Fender started manufacturing their Squire range in Indonesia, the product was not good. Same thing happened when Ibanez shifted production from Japan to Korea. Ibanez's RJ series just didn't sound the same (had one of the last ones made in Japan).

Would you care to set me straight? What is the norm. I would really like to hear YOUR opinion.

The folks finding treasure do not talk about it that's why they are successful. If you want to know who what and where learn to read between the lines. Start doing your own research and make your own decisions. There is plenty of info on the Scorpion out there but you want someone here to take you by the hand and tell you what to buy so they can be blamed when your unsuccessful.
