Hello Pgill

The problems of getting access to sites seems to be universal I have various sites under investigation and negotiation. A lot of time and research can end up at the mercy of the land owner.

Thanks once again for bringing this topic to life.

Hardluck.

Hello all

Here is a report from 2009 from South Africa.

Construction of the Gautrain in Johannesburg has been halted for six months after workers found a large quantity of gold coins minted between 1892 and 1898 at the construction site in Rosebank. Excited historians believe the coins could be the missing Kruger millions.

Historians pointed out that they will need to further comb the area for any additional coins or other clues. Work on the Gautrain will be suspended from today.

The Gautrain has been praised for creating 63 000 jobs so far. As a result of this, Gauteng Local Government MEC Qedani Mahlangu said last month that the project has empowered citizens in terms of skills development and transfer, job creation and improving Gauteng's economic capacity.

Project CEO Jack van der Merwe also addressing the media on progress regarding the project's socio-economic development last month, gave assurance that the global economic meltdown will not affect the cost of the project. The Gautrain project is estimated to cost about R25 billion and Van der Merwe says to date they have spent about R15 billion.

Hi Hardluck,

I remember hearing / reading something about this find.... not sure what has happened with it though as it has gone very quiet. I do not think it is part of the millions though, the find was not big enough.... I will try and find out more about what has happened with this find.

God bless
Peter
After some research, I have found that the treasure you are talking about was an Aprils fools joke  Grin That makes sense as Rosebank is far from the area where the coins would of been placed.
I must admit though, it was a good joke.... I now know why I have not heard anymore about this find  Cool

God bless
Peter

Hello All

My apologies Pgill I have been led astray with those practical jokers. Grin I guess It is classic example that you cannot always believe what is written in a newspaper. Wink

I've been caught by these before myself, sometimes they can sound very convincing. That one was well done with just a hint of treasure in a mundane story.

Thats how some treasure legends probably get their start, someone writes a bogus letter or article as a joke, and a few years later someone finds it without the explanation and viola a new legend! Luckily these days we have a way to quickly cross check some info, and well done on that Smiley

Sorry Hardluck, this was a joke by the SABC (South African Broadcasting Commision) TV and Radio station  Idiot We have had some very strange jokes on the 1st April over the years by these guys.... then by midday, people are told of the joke..... Funny, I do remember this joke, just cannot remember it as a joke  Cheesy As you guys have said, probably many a joke has turned out to be used as truth at a later stage  Devil

God bless

Hello All

Pgill there is nothing to apologize for. Treasure researching is a bit like boxing its only a matter of time you cop one on the chin. Grin

That is as Idaho Jones rightly said part of the territory. This type of resaerch there is all manner of claims some in fun, But can later lead to mistaken beliefs.

There has been many claims about this treasure legend but I would be not too ready just yet to write off all the stories connected to the legend.

Besides thats what makes researching the story behind the legends fun.

Hardluck.
