Yes- I am well aware of the treasures having been buried or hidden in caves. Whether or not there any more recoverable ones remain to be seen. Missouri is an outdoor paradise with lots of small rivers, caves, etc. When I was a kid- we used to float the rivers and anytime we saw a cave in a bluff or anywhere we would always  stop and explore it. Repeat this thousands of times throughout the years with different people throughout the state  and I just have to think the chances of anyone finding a cache in a cave are pretty slim. If there's one out there- it would have to be waaaaaaaaay off the beaten path.

Also- caves here in Missouri are composed  of limestone so the chance of anyone actually burying a cache in a cave is practically nil. They were hidden not buried,

Steve

Goldfinger:
AND!
With today's mindset, these treasures/caches, that, are to quote you, "are Waaaaaaaaay! of the beaten path", are going to be plenty safe!
I have had an open invitation, for several years ...
For anyone, who wants to, accompany me on a treasure or prospecting trip ...
Well!
Let's just say, That! The front room and the TV set, are just too darn hard to leave!
  Tongue
With that kind of "mindset",
I'd still be "plugging along",   Cry   doing, the Old "8 to 5", Thing !
Instead of having two parcels of land (1-5acs. 1-8acs.), two homes, three vehicles ("4" count'n the JEEP)
Paid off!
And!
No credit debts !
"I took the Step !"
AND!
It, really, paid off !
"You don't find, what you don't seek" !

That's a Spanish Monument Rock !
Very near to the top of a "mesa" !
Just above a deep, Spanish Mine Shaft (flooded).
And!
Above a 1700's Spanish Mission, in a canyon, at the foot on the mesa!   Huh?

Steve:
You may want to rethink that TIME!
Most of the places I go to, are best visited in the cooler/cold weather!
I have on my agenda this trip, which I hope to be starting, sometime in late Jan!
Anyhow,
These areas out in the deserts, are mighty hot in the summer time!
I was in the Mohave Desert one yr., and the temp, there, in camp, was [b 120*   [/b]
Actually, a pretty normal temp, for that time of yr.!
I am planning to go to a site, if I can find it, on this trip, to the Panamint Mnts.
They are just west of "Death Valley" ..
A Place! That no one wants to be hiking around in the Summer !
BUt!
If I find the site, that this "Old Timer" told me about, I'll be in a HUGE! Cavern System!
So! Large, (once he was inside) that the very size of it scared him!   Shocked
He never explored it..
Or! Did he ever return to it!

This January-February  is out of the question. If not this winter or spring- perhaps next fall or a year from now.

From the looks of the above replies..... Undecided
Looks like me 'n Bugs are going to be on our own again this year!   :Smiley
What you are looking into, is the entrance to a genuine Spanish Mine Tunnel !
