I might be wrong here But I think that they were used for offerings or prayers etc at or near the entrance of very old mines, I have seen simular near old copper mines and Tin mines but the ones over here and in the OLD EU are maybe three hundreds years old or more, but there is no way of dating them but looking how the surrounding terrain is untouched I would say you have  got a good 2-300 years worth there maybe more, its too well built for modern man as in the past 100 years so thats defenately out, Is there anysigns and such relateing to it,

RR

because it is ideally suited for watching an area and would provide some pretty decent protection (provided you could get into it)...

There is an local legend of a tribe of 2 1/2 to 3 ft Indians that live there maybe the KGC enslaved them made them Masons and used them to guard the  Confederate treasury.

I was out treasure hunting in a desolate part of Arizona

Did they ever make a movie in this area?

Yeah they did, That was the one where Danny DeVeto Played the part of the Caveman Crime Lord and that was his home,

RR

I'm still sure it's a mine/Prayer shrine

Not that I know of....at least not in this particular area.  Plenty of movies shot in Arizona, but this spot is a bit out of the way even for them.

I guess I'm going to have to go back out and get a picture of the Indian Head.  Fortunately I don't have to drive all the way out to the area that had the structures (that's one rough, trip).   The Indian Head is visible from the Interstate leading up to the hunt area.

Could have been a place to store meat out of wild animals reach, but I have never read that the Indians ever did that.

We have those Southern NM.     I've smoked out the bugs and sleep in them to get out of the Wind.

 Grin

I've found them on hill sides, Mtn sides,   Top of Small Mtns you name it.

I've found Napping chips in some.
