I had a vibra-probe and it was good to about 3/4" is all.  Built like a tank but when i carried it in my bag it would turn on by itself all the time.  Have also used a Harbor Freight one for $15.00 and it's good to about one inch.  My wife finally bought me a Garrett Propointer and it is the only way to go

You guys are getting me interested in getting a Garrett Propointer as a new addition to my equipment. The only reservation I might have is the water-proofness of the unit with an exposed speaker. Anyone ever had issues with this?

I use 3M electrical tape. I wrap several layers above, on, and below the speaker. I have had that bad boy muddy as heck and no issues, Beale.

I use a SunRay DX-1 on my DFX.  Handy addition in my opinion.  The only compaint I have about the sunray line of probes is that I wish I had gotten into them sooner than I did.  They work great for me.  Granted they are a little pricey but sometimes you get what you pay for.

Lots of you guys are so hooked on pinpointers that I ask myself where are you using these pinpointers . In my opinion a pinpointer is a piece of equipment to investgate holes in the rocks or wells or any spot too large to use a regular coil . Another use may be to get as close to your target ( once detected by using your regular coil ) as possible , not to disturb a large area of soil . In my opinion , by using the smallest coil possible you would have a pinpointer . The smallest coil possible would be a ferrite coil rod with a  cu wire coil wound on it . The ferrite rod is not bigger than 3/4 of an inch ( diameter ) . How small can you get ?   The only thing you have to do is working with any PI detector and you got it made . You can use any shape coil with this set up .  Cornelius

Hi Bill!  I ordered mine from Tony at T.C. Metal detectors.  You can actually find his banner on the front page of the Thunting site.   Tony is a great guy to deal with.  Also you may want to keep an eye on Ebay if you're looking for one.
