Looking for some real world feedback from the crew out there regarding which pinpointer they think is the best and why. Appreciate any information you can provide. I have been hunting the beach and ocean predominantly and now I have a couple of land sites that I want to check out. Thanks.

Peter

Well-.. Hmmmm-, probably would be the Garrett propointer, mainly cause it's quite rugged, simple to use and will detect a good inch, sometimes more, but it's ruggedness impressed me, as well as the warranty, should something happen, there are many cheaper, have had many, but they just aren't tough enough for me, either the plastic breaks or the switches, or no depth of detecting, need to touch target, that's what I think, mebbe others will sound off on this, Teach Detecting

Bugar, thanks for your reply. I saw that pinpointer on ebay and was wondering how well it works. At $135 thats a pretty steep price but then again, you know what they say, "you get what you pay for". I don't always believe that, which is why I  posted the question here. All of my metal detecting experience has been on the beach and in the ocean here in Florida, but I now have the opportunity to detect what was once a resort in the late 1800's and will get a chance to dig in the dirt. Thanks again.

Peter

I use a Garrett propointer also...I never leave home without it. My father bought one of the $15.00 specials from Harbor Frieght...it seems to work but you can tell it is cheap. You can also rinse off the propointer under water if you cover the speaker hole with your thumb. Like I said if you can afford the pro go for it. BTW I've gotten 3" to 4" depth on mine....some will say their brand will go deeper but heck what for I've got a metal detector for that duhhh   just my two cents

Check out the VibraProbe. I have 2 older Model VibraProbes, they are very rugged, use a 9 volt battery and work quite well. It is hard to imagine ever breaking one of thes probes whatever you do to it. Waterproof also. No con trols to mess with or speaker to worry about.

I vote for the Garrett Propointer. My wife and I use em and they are great. Ive used several different types in the past and still use my Vibraprobe 570 when Im in the surf/wading, but the Garrett Propointer is the pinpointer that I use the most by far. It really speeds up recovery time. I like the way that it will start to beep&vibrate slowly when your a few inches from the target, then beep&vibrate more rapidly the closer the tip gets to the target until it is a constant beeping tone. Its very rugged, my wife and I have both dropped our Propointers onto pavement accidentally (hey it happens) and they continue to work perfectly as well as the day that we got em. The fact that you can use em in the rain and also rinse them clean under the faucet is a definite plus. Best of luck to ya, whichever pinpointer you decide to get. Happy Hunting!  Smiley

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, KellyCo has a really good deal for Garrett Propointer with accessories. $135.95 scroll down to bottom of linked page.

I know I am new to the group. I will say this I had the Vibra Probe and did not like the size and the fact it interfered with my detector. I have sinse then bought thr Garrett Pro Pointer. I really like this one. I hunt with it all the time. Very rugged, gets a hit on a quarter at least at 2" and I like the size of it.

I did take some electrical tape and cover the speaker. It was a bit loud. I like the light and with the speaker covered I have hunted in misty rain with no issues.

The only negative it that at times I really like the side scan and others I do not. I like using it when I have a pile of dirt. Very good investment, Beale.

I haven't had an issue with the VibraProbe interfering with my detector, but I use a Minelabs Sovereign pretty exclusively, not much experience using it with other detectors. The size of the VibraProbe doesn't bother me, I actually like the fact that I don't have to stick my hand in the ground so much and always have a clean handle on the pinpointer. Everybody's experience may be different because of their combination of equipment.  I checked out the Garrett ProPointer demo on YouTube, it looks like a very interesting unit also. I like the fact that it has an LED light, I could have used that on many occasions. I think it would be better if it were completely watertight with no speaker though.

Wups  -Sorry- forgot to mention the Vibraprobe, they are good, seem almost indestructable, they just vibrate, don't have the range/distance/depth, of the Garrett, but work good, kinda bulky, waterproof, but RUGGEDD Round About

I agree on the rugged aspect and waterproof of the vibra probe. I guess it just was not for me. It is a very good unit though, Beale.
