I am looking at the M6 by whites and since my wife started seeing what people are digging up she wants one now and she tries the ace 250 and she loves it. So looks like I will be getting the ace 250 for her. The best package or deal is the ace250 sport then all you need to do is purchase the smaller coil and your all set for all round MDing.

I just got the Ace250 and can hardly wait to use it. Just starting out in the hobby and have been reading all I can. The ground is frozen solid, still, tried it out nearby and already got tones on nickels, a quarter and a signal with the 1$ symbol in coin mode!! Even got a good tone on a possible gold ring at 4" in jewelery mode. I've been practising in my living room with coins and rings under my carpet(shows how desperate I am to start!) to get familaiar with the detector.
Sorry if I posted this in the wrong area...I'm still learning the forum too! Detecting

Hey El oro,

i'm going to get some flak on this, but......won't be the first time.

Yes, you can pay for a machine with your finds; stretching it out with clad.....or do research on 'old' sites and, with luck and hard work, pay for it with one or two 'key dates' or a gold ring.

Please do not get in the mindset of buying a machine for its 'resale value'. Buy a good one (even if you have to put it on lay-away and pay slow) and learn to use it. If you buy a low-end machine, you will only up-grade later because of its' deficiencies.....and pay AGAIN. I have been doing this for forty+ years and have only 'upgraded' because of improvements.

My last brand/machine upgrade was from a Spectrum in 2001. I went to the Explorer and have never looked back. When the Explorer XS came out there was no real info on programming it. The learning curve was horrible. Then came the EX II and next, the SE, then SE Pro, then Etrac. Information, over the years, came in leaps and bounds. With the new information available, the learning curve (every machine has one) is now a dream.

I have a recommendation and I stand by it. The Minelab Explorer SE Pro is 'the' machine of choice. They got a little too creative with the Etrac (IMHO) and added some bells and whistles and left other GOOD bells and whistles out. ALSO.....it is imperative that an Explorer user gets Andy Sabisch's book 'The Minelab Explorer & Etrac Handbook'!!! The book keys on every aspect of use and programming.

BUT....one must key on pages 85 & 86 which explain the Explorer Emulator and how to get it on your computer. This program brings up the face of the Explorer (or Etrac, your choice) with ALL the controls that function exactly as the real machine. Zip files are available at a few clicks of the mouse and you can drag a little coil across the target and practice programming (while listening to the tones), to your hearts content. There are about a hundred targets, keepers and trash, in the available zip files. With Andy's book and the Emulator, the learning curve drops to....negligable. NO other brands offer this!

Oh,....did I mention that I have detected behind 'non-Explorer' users, for almost ten years, finding and digging targets they could not hear at depth, in trash? This sucker (EX) is amazing and has been since the day I bought it and the SE PRO is more AND better. I also did not mention that for almost forty years I have lived 35 miles from 'White's' at Sweethome. Merely being in proximity to a manufacturer is not a buying point with me. Unless they come up with a machine that beats my Minelab I will not own another.

OK, let the beating begin.

Bud in Oregon

Hi,
I have both machines, An Explorer II and the Ace 150.
I bought the ace for my son (10) as the Explorer is way too heavy for him.
I love both!
The Garret is great for it's simplicity and light weight.
My son has had some great finds with it from really good depths (Roman bronze coins at 7" plus)
The Explorer, although I wouldn't change it,is really an effort to use sometimes.
You have to be in the right frame of mind to use it!
If I only have a short while to detect - I just grab the Garrett and go!
