Hey Paul and Tyler,

I have said this before, but.....get Andy Sabisch's new book The Minelab Explorer & E-trac Handbook. There are Explorer programs from heaven there. Also, key in on pages 85 and 86 for how to get the Explorer Emulator on your computer.

Bud

Hey Paul,

I did not add the minelabowners web-site because I am used to having it deleted at Finds forum. So........assuming it is not happening here, there are also great zips for the Explorer & E-trac Emulator at

, coins and jewelry.

By the way, the MLO forum is well worth joining as a paid Platinum member. You have their five day grace period but I joined anyway. It was the best $24 I have spent for a detecting tool. Most of the guys are, stone-cold, experts. The Minelab information never stops.

I know you have already made a choice by now but I thought I would respond for those others who will read this trying to make that same decision about a new detector.  I started out 15 years ago with a very inexpensive Bounty Hunter and still have that machine today.  I still use it and have found a multitude of coins with it.  I liked the three tone ID system and can tell almost every time whether a coin or some piece of junk is under the coil. It does not reach very deep but has been a great coin finder.  The newer Hunters are much better of course.  Next I bought a Lobo with the intent of getting out to some gold bearing areas but ended up using it for regular coin hunting. It is much more sensitive than the Hunter and reaches deeper but the learning curve on descrimination took me a little longer.  I now own a Minelab which is an awesome machine and the digital readout is very accurate.  But, my 70 year old arm gets tired of using it after a while and I'm thinking about trading it for something lighter.  Nevertheless, you get what you pay for in quality and performance so go ahead and spend a few more bucks up front and then you won't be trying to upgrade so soon. Good descrimination and accurate digital readouts would be at the top of my list if I were buying today.

I don't know much, but if I were starting today for the first time, having done some research, I like the Garrett ace 350 for its reviews, features, and price range.  Having said that, I just got some good advice about GROUND BALANCE, that you ought to read in this link:
