Thanks Idaho Jones,
Good information to know.
I will be on my second use cycle (and maybe 3rd) this weekend and will report results.

I was considering rechargable batteries in my Bounty Hunter and called them. They said that the only rechargable they recommend is the NiMH. They told me that 99% of the others on the market would not stay powered up long enough to bother with in thier machines. If I get some , I'll just go to Harbor Frieght and buy the 300mah version. Just my two cents worth. Well maybe 1/2 cent!  Grin

wb4rav - I have used NiMH in my Minelab Explorer II but they only last about two hours before the voltage is too low, if only there was an extended battery pack, I think it would work.  8 AA @ 1.5VDC = 12VDC and 8 AA NiMH @ 1.2VDC = 9.6VDC
The alternative I have been thinking about is to make a belt pack of 10 NiMH C or D cells, but that would require running a power cable to the MD.  I think if I used 10 NiMH D cells I could Detecting all day and maybe all night.
I appreciate your 1/2 to 2 pence, and especially your call to BH for the insight.

You are welcome for the 1/2 cent. What will work for one detector might not work for another. The best way (although it may be expensive) is to try diffurent types untill you find what works form your machine.

Keep looking you'll find what works yet.

Well my opinion of rechargeable is very low and I have bought and tried most of them on the market. If you look at the cost it can run more in the long run as most of them start braking down after 8 to 10 charges and need to be replaced.
I suggest you stick with name brand alkaline battery's and over time you will be happier.

Results report # 2
Voltage measurement 1.5-1.51 VDC (out of the box)
First use lasted 6+ hours of detecting time on Minelab Explorer II
Voltage measurement after first charge cycle 1.59-1.61 VDC
2nd use has gone 7+ hours of detecting time on Minelab Explorer II
I know this is a real world test and several variables will affect usage,
but I would rather spend more time detecting than testing.
I am cautiously optimistic about these batteries and charger,
we shall see after the 10th charging cycle.   Club
More to follow as I use these batteries.

Juice Battery report # 3
I thought I might have not recharged the batteries properly, when some did not measure up
on the voltmeter after charging, 1.4VDC to 1.61VDC, and after use, only lasted 2+ hours detecting.
So I made certain the next time I charged the batteries that all was correct.
I measured between 1.59 VDC and 1.61 VDC on each battery (after marking each for record keeping).
The next use did not reach the 3 hour mark of detecting with the Minelab Explorer II.
The future does not look bright for these batteries, I am going to notify the shop where I purchased
them and see if they have any comments.
More to follow, keep swinging, HH Robroy59

On most machines with a voltage regulator using the rechargables I can get about 40hrs
and if I'm using Duracells I get just over 60hrs

with minelabs they use straight out power so unless you use a gel/lead acid battery
and wire it in to the battery holders then you will never get very long out of them,
The sovereign GT pack is good for 15 to 20 hrs,

AU

For what it's worth I found 9.6 volt Batteries at Batteries Plus. 14.99 ea. may be a little too expensive but there they are. Does away with the 8.4 volt. Just sayin'. Could work good in SOME detectors.
