Greetings All,
I have just order a set of 8 rechargeable AA alkaline batteries, labelled Juice.
The nice thing about them is that they are rated at 1.5VDC 2000mA.
I am hoping for better results than using NiMH batteries that are 1.3VDC / 2000mA.
I have found that using them(NiMH) in my Minelab Explorer II that they only last an hour or two.
If anyone has had any experience with the Juice batteries, please let me know.
Otherwise, I will post the results of my use in about 2 weeks.
HH Robroy59

Worthless.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I tried the Rayovac I think and they only charged up about 7 times.

NiMh batteries suck.

NiCd suck if you threat them wrong and don't run them down.

Li batteries cant take the heat.   It kills them...

Let us know how you fair!

Ahhh something I know very well... battery technology

One of the newest types of rechargeable batteries out there are the NiZn, NiZn batteries are recommended for high-drain applications such as flashlights and outdoor equipment. The AA size NiZN batteries produce 1.6 volts which is higher than the voltage of disposable batteries as well as of NiMH batteries, which allows for better performance in motorized and light emitting equipment.

Here is an OK link to help with a decision about batteries

This is new:

Lithium-Metal-Polymer battery contains no liquid or paste electrolyte. The electrolyte is in the form of a polymer film, resulting in a lightweight battery that is rugged, required little maintenance, and can tolerate extremes of temperatures in service lives as long as 10 years.

you can also look up eestore batteries
very interesting!

Thanks for the battery reference link Viracocha.
eestores batteries may be interesting, but it is also unproven.

When you have the interest of Dell computers and a deal with an EV company.... you are closer than an unproven idea... keep your eyes on them!

First test results for Rechargeable Alkaline Juice batteries.
Arrived fully charged at 1.50-1.51 VDC.
First use with Minelab Explorer II lasted 7 hours before low battery beeps started.
Measured 1.30-1.31 VDC after pulling from battery pack.  I do not have a load tester,
so it looks like time to go shopping for one.
I typically get 8-12 hours using inexpensive to premium alkaline AA batteries.
The specs say 100 recharges, I feel if can get 50 at 6 hours per use, it is $$ ahead.
More details to follow.  HH Robroy59

thanks for posting the info. Ive been considering rechargeables. I use them alot in other devices, but dont have any in 9 volt for detectors. My experience with nimh ones doesnt give me much hope they'll work in a detector. Ive been buying walgreens brand alkalines in an 8 pack (cheapest I found that are still good quality). Also with 9 volts.........they arent all the same size! Most devices that take 9 volts leave room for play, my F2 doesnt and its a bear to get some brands of batteries in and out of it.

I've heard of the ones Virachoca mentioned but never used any. The others I have used and still do in various applications.

With rechargable batteries Nimh, Nicd, LIon, LiPo, it's all in how you charge store and discharge them as to how they work and last. If you are a sporadic user, less than once a week, I'd probably stay with alkaline. Rechargables can develope a usage memory over time.

NiCd (Nickle Cadmium)
need to be fully discharged and immediately recharged and always stored with a charge for best output and life.

NiMH (Nickle Metal Hydride)
need longer charge times and it's best to have an adjustable charger to get the maximum capacity from them. Usually more rugged than NiCds

LIon (Lithium Ion)
have a much longer and slower charge rate and should be the longest lasting during use and storage, and most expensive...

LiPo (Lithium Polymer)
are extremely light and also volatile if handled wrong. They can actually catch fire if discharged or charged to quickly or too far. Only use them in things designed for LiPo

If you want the best results from a rechargable battery I'd put serious money into a decent charger and read up on how to charge and store your type. Putting too little or too much charge into any of them will affect life quite a bit. The best place I know to look for the latest in battery tech is the RC modeling bunch.
