I try to do as much research as I can, so I'm spending less gas going to places that don't have much to offer.

I hunt the playgrounds, hoping that the kids borrow their parents bling and lose it...

I would look online for the laws where you live and carry a copie with you. But even if you right and allowed to hunt there I would still leave if asked to. I did this at one local beach when asked to leave, I showed a copie of the rules to the grounds keeper. He still didn't think I was allowed to hunt there so I said thanks and went somplace else.
I've only seen one park that was posted with a sign. It showed what could be a detector and a round coin ( ? ) with the red line thru it. I should have taken a picture of it.....

In Mississippi, all state parks are off limits, city parks , most are open too us, it just depends if there was any civil war activity in the area . Most of the tot lots around here have wood chips and I've about gotten used to them.  Good hunting all

I called a State park today and asked if I could use a metal detector on the beach or in the water. The guy on the phone said Sure....
I hope he is working tomorrow when I go there.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

I have been able to make a few finds in the older areas that have been graded off for new construction or
newer highways. If the grounds was an old park......heh,heh, usually made great finds.

OK it was a county park and not a State Park as I posted.
I braved the cold ( 59 degrees ) and made it out today. E G Simmons park. $2 per car and $1 for each extra person. Very nice park and should be some good hunting there in the summer time. Nice Beach but my Ace 150 didn't like it. A lot of large iron around it. I did find my first toy car. It was to cold and windy for me so I only stayed about an hour. When I get my hip mount for my Excalibur I will go back . Other than the beach they have a camp site and lots of trails. My last find was about a foot down, rusted and the size of my fist. I wasn't sure what it was and not knowing the history of the area I buried it back and reported it to to park ranger ( I marked the spot ). I'm almost sure there use to be some old Forts around there. I thought it better to leave it and report it. So here are a couple pictures. Still working on posting picture so these are a direct link.
