I voted "Finders Keepers - It's Mine".....which means it is also mine to share out if I wish.   Whether I shared or not would depend.   If the 2 friends I was with were my regular hunting partners and not just a couple of "friends" I only hunted with occasionally, I'd probably at least offer to share out.  If I did share out, it would be equally.   Both of  these statements would be dependent upon there NOT being an existing written or oral agreement.   If there was an existing agreement, I'd follow the terms of the agreement (which may have been that the finder keeps 50% and the other 50% gets divided between everyone else).    As to whether existing oral agreements made prior to other hunts would influence me or not.....with my regular hunting partners they definitely would (even if we didn't "agree to the usual terms" prior to this hunt)... with occasional partners, I might or might not base my decision on agreements made prior to other hunts depending upon how frequently we hunted together and how much I enjoyed hunting with these people.

Reversing the roles, if someone I hunt with (even regularly) finds a cache of any size,  as much as I might like to have a share of it, I don't think the finder has any obligation to share any of it with me....UNLESS we made an agreement for this hunt (or made it clear the agreement covered all joint hunts).   If the finder did decide to share with me, I'd be happy with whatever portion he gave me....it would be money I hadn't had, hadn't found, and really didn't have a claim to, so it be pure, sweet bonus for which I would be deeply grateful.

Thank you heathen1. Its a subject that I never thought about until it happened to me. But I wonder?? If folks decide to "share" then does that include "all" finds or just cash and how does a person split relics etc?

Speaking of which, the cash I found was fairly modern. If you want an idea as to "what kinds of finds" I recovered that day alone in just 2 hours, then check my website out in my profile then when ya visit, go to "photos" & Larry's Treasures.

you aren't kidding about the can of worms you could be opening when it comes to splitting relics.   One person might look at something and see yard-sale junk and another person with a bit more knowledge might look at the same thing and see a hot collectors item worth a few thousand dollars.

What happens when the person who sees it as junk lets the other guy have it and then finds out he sold it at auction for $1800.00 ?    Another arguement for Finders Keepers unless there is an agreement in place and the agreement specifies what gets split and how.

Maybe one of them. Have access to many more.

If your ever this way & want to "dig in the dirt" just give me a jingle. Want to read something interesting about another 10 acre site that I have access to? I'll attach article about Antelope Springs.
