Hi Guys

What would be a good entry level for the DSPic? I want to be able to make a sine wave and DSP of the incoming signal on a micro VLF detector.  Detecting

All the best
Xavier

It's the things you need to process later that will determine the PIC chip you select. Also, the sine wave is a stepped sine wave, not a true sine. You'll need to filter it a little to smooth it out for pure sine. The coil will help a lot as well as the driver circuitry.

What kind of machine are you using it for? PI? VLF/TR? Are you going to use the processor for discrimination? Depth and size analysis?

I always lay out a plain English specification in paragraph form. I give myself a few days to look it over and cogitate on the spec. I make any changes and then I start breaking the end result into steps which must be completed.

Lots to do, mate. Lots to do.

OK well you know that I bought Flowcode5 and they now have a sine wave build into there software but I still will be using an RC low pass filter at the end. At first I want to be able to get a VLF detector working of the PIC leaving my self the option to use it as a building block. I then want to be able to use it with a discrimination but I think that I have that part figured out. I will also want to be able to measure to resistivity or conductivity of the metal to be able to determine what it is i.e gold, silver, copper, bronze, and so on, I'm not really concerned about depth (If it gold I'll dig till I find it) the size of the object could be interesting but not a must.

Not to Muddy the waters but you know NO DIGITAL can quite make Analog the way it should be.

PCM is a good Guess but never makes it to the same.

Most Systems just don't have the speed or the Sample rates to get there.

Another Problem can be the Weighting or Filter they use.

This is Why CD MP3 and other music sounds so Tinny.

It's just not there.

LOL you don't get it do you? with micro processing you can do in a small box what you could do in a very big box using analog. As for the speed of the processor it depends on largely how the programming was done. At a speed of 20Mhz I'm sure that I will be able to get a VLF running at 14Khz

Not said it can't be done.   Just said DAC is not the same as Anolog.

And No it's Not the same.

In the End it may be better for the Porpose.

And it may be missing things that should our could be seening.

The last point of Demodulation is between the Ears!

A hybrid is also good but I believe Xavier is up to something sneaky here. I believe he wants to be able to change frequencies on the fly using a digital tuning capacitor and his PIC chip adjusting the output impedence while adjusting his output frequency. I'm just taking a guess here based on knowing the lad from countless PM exchanges and what he posts here. If he reconfigures his machine digitally, he can make that baby talk to him. It'll practically tell him the date on a coin if he's careful.

That's the way on the Consumers these days.

That's why TID took off like a Rocket and All the Industry is putting them out.

My Take is that I like to Hear the Toons.

Guess I'm Old School.

I can Hear the Fingers going up and down the Guitar Strings on a Old Time Record.

You can't hear that on a MP3 Recording of the same music.

That little bit may be my Coin or Ring. Cool

He's not trying to compete with your ears, Homie. I believe he just wants to have a detector that will operate at 5khz, 50khz, 300khz and any spot in between them without having to change coils or swap out detectors entirely.
