Since The Malta Treaty, the treasure hunting scene has taken on a whole new danger, with archies and would be armchair hobby cops searching the forums and reporting everthing they see. In Germany the State even tried to confiscate the collections of several people who had bought and dealt in coins over years as an investment for thier pension. I think the State thought they?de end up with a cheap aquisition for the museum, but the State eventually lost when the cases went to court.
Doesn?t mean they or other countries won?t try it again though !!

Those "enlightened" folks that come up with those laws have no idea how short-sided they really.   I'd wager that a very large percentage of the major finds that have led to our greater knowledge of the past were originally made by amatures/treasure hunters, who having no reason to fear the power of the state to confiscate, fine, and imprison, made their finds known....which in turn led to the professionals having a new site they didn't know of before that they could work.    So instead of "preserving" history, they are supporting hoarding and the suppression of knowledge.

On that note, I know very some that are more "educated" Teach in the feild of "hobby" than the so called "Educated" Teach To be self called and ordained in the feild of discovery and recovery. we all as one have far surpassed the preservation of history Clapp ,while we run amuck Rider , meandering to the next artifact with our eyes glazed Shocked, in search of the the find.. you can surface hunt and dig on private property in Texas and post pictures of legally obtained artifacts .you cant take artifacts from state or federal land ...
