You are right. I had a good friend who spent time hunting Indian artifacts etc. He and two or three friends made plans to hunt a river bed and ajoining banks one weekend. One friend showed up with a new friend who wanted to "get into" the hobby of artifact collecting. After they had spent several hours searching, they took a break to compare finds. At that point, the "new friend" pulled out a badge and identified himself as an agent of the state and arrested all of them. They managed to get out of it with a $500.00 fine and forfeiture of their collections but they could have received jail time as I understand it. So be careful.

That INDIAN friend should have sued the government or appealed. Looks to me like he had a right to possess. Artifacts were his relatives and not the governments! What an insane government, go to jail for picking up garbage from the past. Don't lay down and take it, fight for what you believe in.   John in Va...

Hi, I'm a part time artisan & crafter and created a Native American style "shaman" fetish of ceramics and natural materials for listing on Ebay.  I actually put the term "Native American Style" in the title and Ebay pulled the auction.  Dang, you can't even mention the term Native American without sending up red flags!
