Sounds great!!

Thanks for all your help! I hope I return it somehow someday.

Smokin you notice that most here share very freely and all that's ask is that you share in return when  you can. That's whats makes a good forum and good members. Thanks for being here.

I will share all I can.

Thanks
Turned on the History Channel this morning and True Caribbean Pirates is on. One of historians said "not a single treasure map has ever lead to a treasure so I wouldn't go digging very many holes"

What do you think about that?

I've been saying that for years. It falls on deaf ears around here.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Seldom, have you ever hunted Matagorda Island? James Tilton, Laffites supposed "cabin Boy" lived there for four years. From what I can see there is no bridge, part of it is National Wild life, an AFB, and what looks like a pretty good size airport on the southern end.

I have not been on Matagorda in years but even at Padre were I hunt I go in by boat its risky by 4 WD you can get in trouble fast. I read or was told that most of Matagorda if off limits but not sure.

I'm with Seldom on the boat part......most of the places you'd want to get to on the Texas barrier islands (other than  strictly beach hunting) are going to be more accessible via shallow draft boat than they are by vehicle (and a lot of them are way to far to hike---voice of experience there).

The more I read the ore excited I get. Never dreamed that my IR camera would get a new use while hunting.
Got the e-trac today. Took it on the back yard and found my incoming AC power!! Then a foil ball and half coke can. Ran down to a grass parking lot and discovered almost a solid layer of bottle tops. It sounded like a flock of birds chirping. There was also asphalt or soild layer of gravel about 1.5" deep. Too cold at wet to mess around to much.
Took the MD to a very small beach in Pasadena. What a great time.

found some foil, a can, 2 quarters, 2 pennies, a dime and three pull tabs.

Only a detectorist can read "found some foil, a can, 2 quarters, 2 pennies, a dime and three pull tabs" and still KNOW what you mean when you said "What a great time".    Grin

Go Up Go Down

Somehow I goofed that last post so here it is again.

Took it to a very small beach in Pasadena and hunted until I could no longer swing it correctly. About 2 hours. After I got home I read the manual again and discovered a few setting I had set incorrectly for beach hunting. I am going to try and go back again this weekend with the correct settings. No sure I want it finding anything deeper than it was. Found what is listed in the last line of my last post. I didn't dig what sounded like three more pull tab.

After I got home I tested some pull tab and gold rings on the machine and think I discovered a no ticable difference. Mind you this was all in air not dirt. The 5 rings all rang in at 12-08 except the heaviest which came in at 12-03. All the pull tabs came in at 12-13. I will see what the three pull tabs I left in the sand look like this weekend.
So I finished TEXAS FORGOTTEN PORTS vol I and now I am on the hunt for vol II. Seems there are plenty of 1s around but have been unable to locate a 2 or 3. Nederland Library has the only copy I have found, but I would much rather have one on my shelf.

Also read The Treasures Of Galveston Bay.

I think I am having more fun with the reading than with the detector.
