Go Up Go Down

Hey there everyone!! I'm new to detecting but love it to death!! Been having a ball. I have a White's Coinmaster Pro and a White's Bullseye II.

I do have a serious question here and it made for a horrible day today. I was getting a TON of false signals today. 8/10 digs there was NOTHING in the hole, but the machine kept beeping. I'd put the pinpointer down in the hole, nothing. Run the coil across, BEEP. It would claim it was 2 inches down, but after 8 inches, still nothing but a BEEP and a claim of 2 inches still. I called the people at White's and they CLAIM it's sounds to be working fine. I did find stuff today, but it was almost like it was by accident. I have been detecting a few weeks now and never had this problem until today. I was really getting pissed. I would notch out all the garbage and STILL get false readings. Was getting ALOT of hits for quarters and 50 cent pieces and NOTHING no matter how far down I dug or how big a hole in diameter I dug. Seems like the pinpoint on the Coinmaster and Coinmaster Pro aren't very good. Any suggestions on what the false readings could be and few tips on pinpointing would be cool... Thank you in advance....

Greetings from Kansas and welcome to TH! Two things come to mind for me here. One, has the ground moisture changed recently (i.e. rain)? and has thrown your ground balance out of whack. Two, the most likely cause for a false signal for a new hunter would be that the coil cable has become loose and is not securely wrapped to keep it from moving in relationship to the coil. If it moves on the shaft, it will be detected! A third cause may be a loose connection between the cable and the detector. Best of luck and happy hunting! Poptop!

Seriously, it could have been a multitude of reasons.

I don't have much of a love of computer driven detectors.

It could have been your pin pointing was off and the target was on the edge of the hole.

It could have been A bit of Ions/Rust left from a long gone target.

It could have been a pile more then that.

 Cool

Do you have a DD type coil?

Pin Pinting is from Nose to toes on those and you could have been off quite a ways.

Did you check the rocks you pulled out of the hole, you could be hitting hot rocks, pieces of foil, a nail all rusted away to nothing, could be a chunk of iron, a tab you missed. You could have an old beer can smashed together and burried deep. If the machine is going off theres something there but just what?  Piece of wire, buried cable, a dam penny or a bunch of dam pennies.

I have checked the rocks in the past and I do have some mineralization in the ground around here where I live. I have put the pinpointer up to plain ole' rocks in the past and they beeped. I live in Upper Bucks County, Pa. and the soil around here is LOADED with metals and stuff. It has rained recently. Today was just frustrating. I first thought that the MD was faulty, but the cable is properly wrapped and connected on both machines. I still have my other Coinmaster and I did use it for a comparison and still got the false hits. So, the machines are working. I will try lowering the sensitivity tomorrow. Guess I just need to practice more pinpointing with the MD. The Bullseye II pipointer works great!! If there is something in the hole it finds it quickly. Thank you all so much for the suggestions. Any suggestion/tips on pinpointing the the MD would be great as well...Peace. Great

What coil do you have?

DD type have a center line from Nose to Toes.

You have to use the Toe or the Heal of the Center of coil to find the goods.

Doing a Cross Swing helps.

The White's Coinmaster Pro metal detector has a 9" Concentric Circles coil...

Cool!   Then your using a Cone Shape Field.

Center would be center unless something is messed up.

I suspect your dealing with Fine Small particles of something or Rust.

 Wink

Now?   Was you in All Metal?    What level of Discrimination?
