question

Is a GPS that important to a metal detector?
adding GPS to this type of micro should be easy but is it useful?

For most users?   No.

On the other hand for some users it would be a handy feature reducing the number of items they'd need to pack by one.

Those that would likely use it are:
1) the 'data freaks' who record every detail of every find they've ever made
2) archaeologists and metal detectorists working with them
3) Someone swinging a detector for law enforcement at a crime scene
4) Someone who is working on a special project

In all 4 cases the GPS is only beneficial if it is at least as accurate as current handheld models.

Go Up Go Down

Personally I like to try and keep the coordinates of my finds but I have given up due to the fact that the only GPS that I have is on my phone and it's so slow that it gets me all up tight. But yes when I go to a Boer war site I like to know where the item was found to try and reconstruct the area. I once build a PI detector using a PIC 16F690 I made it works as a pin-pointer.

All the best
