That's just funny. Asking this bunch whats normal. LOL

Yep, thinking about it. When I shipped dirt from North Carolina home that is not normal.

Last pan? That's what I'm hoping. Haven't found anything shiny yet. Gonna run out real quick + buy a classifier (I think the one I McGyver'ed out of chicken wire may be too big) then I'm gonna get stuck in.

Hey, maybe my home made classifier would be perfect for finding chicken nuggets.

Do you have a sluice? If not buy or build one. It would help on the amount you bring home. The more you can run the better.

If your don't get any thing out of this batch, you probably need to check a new spot or look over with more of a critical eye where to dig at.

That's why I'm taking the Tundra with me when I go to Colorado this fall.  (and I'm taking the wife to help haul the buckets)

It was either mail it home or on the airplane. And it's a killer on baggage fees. The post office guy did ask me "what I was shipping, rocks." and of course I had to tell him yes. Two large flat rate boxes filled to the brim with concentrates are really heavy.

Hmm, I think I do need to find a better spot. I'm not seeing anything, not even the really fine stuff. This is from a tried and tested spot, so I know there's gold in the river somewhere.
I really am quite terrible at this, but I'm still having fun playing in the dirt  Grin

I do have a sluice, a small plastic thing about 2' long by 6" wide. No idea if it's any good as I haven't really figured out how to use it yet.
It seems there's a fine line between it getting plugged up, or all the dirt launching out the end.
I should go see if google can find me a video...

I haven't taken any dirt across state lines yet. Is that even legal???
Dirt smuggling?

I made 3 classifiers, 2 with 1/4' & 1/8" hardware cloth and one with SS window screen.  Haven't used them yet but they should do the trick.

Make sure you classify the dirt first and clean off any rocks that don't make the cut. Make sure it is level across the sluice. Make sure there is a decent ripple effect on the down side of the cross bars. Take your time watching the first few runs. You want to see action in the sluice. Water speed can effect it also. Add rock wings if to low flow if too fast block it or set the sluice in calmer water. Watch the ripples!  Most sluices should be fairly close to 1 inch drop per foot sluice length. Any more it flushes out heavies, less it doesn't flush out the lights. I'll drop some dirt and watch the lights flow out and make sure there is almost a pulling or rolling effect drawing heavier stuff behind the bars. I am kind of slow setting mine up.

Here in Texas it probably is.

If you classify down to window screen size , What happens if the gold was larger then that?    LOL
