Go Up Go Down

So, winter is coming to an end and now we are all looking to go out to the field in search of gold. How many of you just sat in the Lazy Boy eating Cheetos and drinking beer all winter? I will bet that most of you gained upwards of 6 pounds of lard (you know that stuff that jiggles when you waddle?). Physical fitness takes a backseat every winter, and we pay for it with injuries, and an injury out in B.F.E. can be deadly. What about your heart? Being sedatary all winter allows your heart to get weak. Then come spring you go shoveling buckets and lifting and working hard, and your heart and lungs become easily overwhelmed. For some this is just simply being exhausted, and you get worn out well before the job is done. For others the heart has become so weak that it simply can't cope with the stress and next thing you know you have atrial fibrilation and you are 2 hours from the nearest hospital. By the time you get to the truck you would be dead.

Scary huh? The thought of a simple musculo-skeletal injury is enough to make me want to exercise, let alone a heart attack. I don't want to miss any digging.

So, how about we design an exercise program that a person can do 3-days per week and rest on the weekends? Maybe throw in a day or two of cardio? No time for cardio you say? If you don't have heart problems and are under 45 y.o. I may have a good 5-8 minute program for you (performed at own risk).

I need your help with this. What I want are some of the exhausting activities that really wear you out... the activities that make those muscles feel like fire. and I will make a list with the muscles that they work, and design us all a good program based on that.

Activity                                                      Muscle Worked
Getting into trailer                                     Quadriceps
Panning                                                     Forearms
Lifting Buckets                                          Latissimus Dorsi/Trapezius/Deltoids
Starting Small Engine                                Deltoids/Lats
Shoveling                                                   Biceps/Lats/Traps/Delts

Sounds like a Plan to Me!

Don't forget the Elbow Bends.

I suggest 12 oz or 14 oz at a time.

20 oz is only for the Initiated.

 Cool Cool

The one that gets me the worst is Bending down on one arm digging under the big rock with the other arm!

My back just doesn't like that one.   Sad

Nobody wants to buy equipment, so I am trying to form a body weight routine... that everyone can do. I don't want to make it too difficult, people get scared easy.

Working on ideas and will post a routine soon.

Cheers

I know I'm guilty of the above mentioned.  Plus 20lbs this winter, and feel no energy at all....   I'm all for this.  One thing you should add to the routine, everyone should get outside, at least 3 mornings or evenings a week, and just plain walk briskly.....This helps alot more than one would think....

Something along the lines of aerobic exercise was going to be put in, but I want to get a general idea of everyones fitness level. I'm going to start a poll, so if you would please participate so I can start.

Cheers

Sean

Okay, added the poll... so, time to dust off, get off your butt and do some push ups. Don't be bashful, do them now. I am bringing back the art of manliness.

Cheers

Sean

LOL!  Why would you want to exercise?

You don't think Mining is enough work?

After a few hours of Digging, Carting Dirt, Moving Boulders, Hands and Knees Crevising I'm ready for a few beers while I run the dirt.

Then it's time to start Cooking  lunch , Eat lunch, drink another beer and Nap time.  That's about hour or so.

Then it's time ta Finnish running the Dirt.

Load up the Concentraits.

Police the Area.  Call in the Dogs.

Load up the Van and Be on Down the Road.

 Shocked Shocked Grin
