LOL Homefire I can see it coming!

Seldom, I remember one guy putting up claim markers all along the SF Salmon and Secesh rivers then trying to sell them without ever recording any of it. Every old mine was reopened and a year or so later it got quiet again.

To get back to the original topic, the operation up near Silver City Id. appears to be doing well just working the old tailings with modern recovery tools. They bought up all the top of War Eagle Mtn where most of the historic mines were from 1870-1920 and are reprocessing the diggings with a new stamp mill. They had to move the mill down several miles to get approval but seems the gamble is paying off.

I haven't looked in quite some time, but if a guy were to be willing to hike, are their any opportunities for claims in that area? I need to do some more research, and order some plats. Something to do this summer.

Cheers

Sean

Are you talking about New Mexico?

Well when geocommunicator worked there were still a few areas open around the lower part of War Eagle. Most of the historic mining locations are claimed up by companys, clubs, and individuals. The place I go is up there in that area but off the beaten path a bit. There is still a lot of desert land that is open as well but it's harder to explore.

I'm hoping to get back up north to the South Fork some this summer. I used to have pretty good luck up there and it's an awsome area for scenic locations. Not many claims in the hard to reach areas there. Of course some of it is part of the Frank Church Wilderness Area which is off limits.

Homefire- Sorry, I was referring to the area around Idaho City north of Boise. I frequent that area in the summer.

Idaho Jones- I figured if I were to find anything it would have to be difficult to access and have no water. Summers are actually great for dry washers in those mountains... and I still haven't even taken it out yet! I would like to learn some of the desert areas around there, I really want to get together with you one of these days and chow some dirt. I will be sure and bring lots of fun tools to use! So far I think I will be there in July or so.

Cheers

Sean

There are some areas up there that look promising. I know a guy who knows a guy with a claim on Grimes Creek. The guy with the claim hasn't mined nor my other friend but both wanted to learn so maybe I can set something up.

Grimes Creek is always fun. There are some spots there where I have tested my dredges and I didn't do to bad considering I never really got down very deep. I actually found a fair amount of gold near the surface! I will at least have my 2" dredge down there this summer. After last year, I decided I needed a drysuit... that water is frigid year around.

Hope to see you this summer

Sean

Yeah that water is dang cold all right. It was hard to stand my son's whining about it after all day in the water, and there I was sweating away in the heat....  Grin

Most of those streams were largely untouched after 1930ish so they have had about a hundred years to recollect. Couple that with increased erosion from large forest fires and logging and a soil thats semi dense, you get little gold pockets near the surface that don't seem to sink. Which is good since I usually don't have the time to dig down to the bigger stuff.

Well, hopefully this summer we can dig ourselves deep enough to get into some good chunky gold. Right now I am planning Memorial Day weekend for the area around Murray. I don't know if you have ever played up in North Idaho much, but you aren't really missing anything. Southern Idaho takes the cake... but I'm biased.

Cheers

Sean

Never made it north of the Salmon looking for glittery stuff. Southern Idaho is where I spend most of my time because it's right out the door Smiley
