LarryB; Many prospectors are tight lipped about their gold. I have never sold any of the gold I have found. I do give it away though. I have gone with others to sell theirs and gold dust will sell for spot minus fifteen percent. Anything larger gets a better price and is up to what the buyer will bear. Making jewelry seems to be the most profitable if you have larger gold. Also, anything which can be considered a collectors piece commands a higher price. An example of this, a large bold bearing rock that a local vendor had that they could not get much for. They used a rock saw to make slices and did a little polishing on the slices. Each slice shown a few specks of gold and looked pretty good. They had no trouble selling them at a good price.

Yes- many do sell the gold but it depends on the individual. Some try and make a living or at least supplement their income with the gold they find - so they sell it. Others have their own income and keep their nuggets stashed in a safe deposit box,etc for the future.
