Welcome Searching, from Idaho which incidently is just 3 hours east of Arfie and 9 from Gramps in almost a straight line geographically. Smiley

Once upon a time about 20 years back I planned on heading down under for an undetermined time. Circumstances didn't allow back then but I hope to visit some day. Quite the weather you've been having alright, saw some of the flooding on the news. The world has really gone nuts weatherwise this year.

Searching, let us know what you do in Melbourne.  Occupation?  Retired?  What kind of treasure hunting do you do?  Do you use a metal detector, are you a prospector, do you beach hunt?  We would all be interested in hearing about your activities.  By the way, I love your icon!  My icon is of the real "Arfieboy!"

hi Arfie Boy I am a health care worker for one of Victoria and in fact Australia major hospitals. I am a wanna be prospector and plan on buying a detector one of these days. I have done a bit of research into detectors and areas to go fossicking its just that I do a lot procrastinating as well as dreaming. I probably need to join a club as I lack a bit of confidense and it would probably be safer to go out in a group to begin with. I am keen to look for all types of hidden treasures not just here in Aus but around the world.
Regards Searching

Hi Searching.  I'm one of those old, retired guys (65).  I was a rural mail carrier for the US PostalService for 28 years.   I've been metal detecting since about 1972 and have dabbled in the whole spectrum of treasure hunting.  I started coin shooting and that's where I am with my focus again,  coins and jewelry.  Started ghost towning, got into relics and bottles, tried my hand at prospecting and panning on a small scale, then moved on to other aspects of the hobby and came back to where my main interest is again, coin shooting!

I was down in Nevada in a casino that has pictures from around the world downloaded on screens and a saw a beautiful picture of some gorgeous waterfalls in the Australian Blue Mountians!  It didn't say it was near Sydney.

About being a newcomer and being less confident about prospecting, etc., don't worry about it!  Every one of us has been a beginner and newcomer at what we're doing!  But if you can get with a club or just a group of guys with the same interests, your learning curve gets steeper quicker!

Good luck to you!                      Detecting

How true Searching, how true but with the weather we are having right now and the condition
of my knees I feel all of my 68 yrs., physically that is.  Mentally I'm just out of my teens.   Grin
