I looked out my front door about twenty minutes ago and this is what greeted me.

It's the 12th of March on the North Oregon Coast:

It's still coming down, I feel a flood coming on.

Yup if there's any up thar to come down.  I think I might have spoke a little too soon
about the flood, we don't have any extremely high tides for the next two weeks. Might
have a mini or so but no biggy.

It's not a flood till the grocery store in Tillamook has water in the aisles Gramps Grin

Two weekends ago I tried to get back into my new spot but couldn't quite get there because of new snow. Went walkabout in the lower hills and found a nice quartz deposit sticking out of the top of a ridge that may be promising at some point tho. Busted my good shovel trying to dig some out Sad

Weather here has been crazy. One day it's almost 70 and then it snows, then a couple days later it's 60s again. What a tease... Grin

Hey Jonesy the Safeway store is up on dry ground now, the store is where Thriftway used to be and
the parking lot is where the old, old Safeway used to be.  Been that way for about three years now,
the old Safeway building is still empty I reckon they haven't anybody dumb enough to move in to it.

A mini flood is when the outboard lanes of 101 are under water.  You also knew it was a bonafidee
flood when Dairy Queen had water in it but those days are gone, after the last flood he said I quit
and they tore the builing down. Cry  So now if we want DQ we have to go up to Garibaldi, about 10
minutes up the 101.

Hi Mr A welcome to the forum.

As for building boxes there are quite a few threads on here about it. Just use the search function and you will find lots of info. Wood works, the old timers used it and I have myself, but it's also prone to leaking, swelling, cracking etc. Honestly I have become quite fond of plastic. It's reasonably cheap and extremely durable and it catches more gold in my opinion.

Hey Gramps, I always wondered why they never raised the buildings. Guess that last round of floods was enough to do it. We used to spend a lot of weekends at Rockaway as well as camping up in the coast range. There was a turnoff on the right off hwy 6 heading west into Tillamook I would take and head back up into the hills to camp and ride 4 wheelers. Good times.  Smiley

I don't know why most aren't raised, might be an access thing,
if the peeps have to climb stairs they might be dis-enclined to
come in.  There are a few that are raised, the Chinese rest., a
Pawn Shop, North Port Plaza a small strip mall and a motel.

A goodly number of the roads off of hiway 6 are gated now,
someone told me they private gates but a private gate wouldn't
of heavy iron and have multiple huge brass locks.  Damn BLM &
USFS locking up public land is what it is.
