thunter . My Portugese is not too good but I think that  the form used is Perdeo   like  the Spanish Perdido .  By putting SE infront of it I think it meant that Alfonso was lost . I may be wrong and maybe our Portugese members could inform us about the right translation . But I have  come to the conclusion that the ship did not sink in the spot mentioned on the map . As I mentioned before I am waiting for some documents to go ahead with this subject . It takes quite a while to get all the documents together , but I will come to a sound conclusion based on facts  .   Regards  Cornelius    ps  Thank you for participating in this subject .

Cornelius, I agree with you, I don't think it sank there either. That map was, as you said, made long after the  actual sinking and the marking of that spot was probably based on something possiby read or heard by the cartographer as opposed to any accurate research at the time. Glad you opened this thread and look forward to participating in it however much I can. Thanks for sharing your research.

Hey guys . Don't think I gave up on the Flor do Mar . I have been collecting documents to further my research . As you all know research is not done in one week . It takes a long time looking at all possibilities . Give me two weeks more and I will disclose some of my findings .  If there are any of you that can help me I will appreciate it . I am still looking for the text of  : Book Seven , Of the Second Decade of Asia  , by  Joao de Barros . If anybody is smart enough to find this text for me , I will be happy .    Cornelius

Cornelius, if I understand correctly, Joao de Barros only wrote 5 volumes of "Decades of Asia."
Diego de Couto continued his works after Barros died and published 7 more volumes.
