Hello all

I'm very to see that there a lot of activity on this topic. Just a quick reminder, do not mistake the vessel name in your search, looking for the wreck is that of "La Madalena" rather than "Magdalena". But I think everyone had paid particular attention to that.

Regards

Luc  Great

"La Madalena", "Magdalena", it doesn't matter. This is a ghost wreck. In other words, it does not exist.

Let's clarify some points:
Bob Marx, in his Shipwrecks in Florida Waters, pag. 68 tells us that in 1563 the ship Magdalena (or Madalena) Captain Cristobal Rodriguez, was wrecked on the coast of Florida. Also tells other stories of gold, silver, treasures etc. etc. etc. and mentions as a primary source for information on bundle # 2899, section Contratacion   of AGI. However, this bundle (the 2899) begins to give us data from 1580 and there is no reference to the wreck, not in this bundle or others for the simple reason that this ship never sank. It is another of the famous tales of Mr. Marx. It is a "ghost shipwreck". Forget it !
Cheers VV

My friend, there are many shipwrecks off the coast of Florida, but none Magdalena, 1563.

Vox Veritas . You and I know that Marx is just selling books ! A lot of his stories are just to fill the pages . His ref to the archives in Spain is just a lot of hog-wash .   I don't know why anybody is not questioning his ,, coordinates ,,  , being the coast of Florida  , as kind of ,, anywhere ,, in Florida !!!!!!  . Marx gives his source as, AGI, Contratacion, legajo 2899. I've heard the location is somewhere off Cape Kennedy.
