The treasure trove laws make sense..it protects the Countries history while compensating the finder and land owner...you get full market value ( as decieded by a committee)...if a Museum wants the artical they have to pay the amount..if no museum wants it or can afford it..you get the artical back.

Here is the new treasure trove laws

Yes Rock,

Can they still detect a wreck accurately, when the scan area has a known, high iron or other geological trait.

Cheers Crowsnest- Kevin.

Well.. I'll take you out in the middle of your favorite bay, cove, lake etc.. a few meters is pretty damn close... especially when you consider the efficiency of the systems (100m coverage per pass) and resolution (smaller than a milk crate)

Not this time of year, boat is all buttoned up for the winter BRR!

'Nest..
Side-scan is acoustical, so iron content doesn't effect it, it just sends sound waves that bounces off the bottom/objects and comes back.  How hard it comes back gives you an idea what the composition is.  Think of a side-scan as an 'acoustic photograph'.

As long as the wreck is fairly intact then it should be easily seen.  I'll see what I have  on my computer that shows a wreck.

Unfortunetly, working for a university I don't get to take the toys and go play elsewhere....

See this link if you want to see some examples of side-scan sonar.  Look at the GB enhanced side-scan images and Appendix D
