That first piece of machinery reminds me of an elect motor armature but don't think that is it.

Chip if you could without giving away your site, tell us a little more history of the place and age your hunting it may help with ID's.

thanks Seldom, the home or the foundation and area is in the south carolina midlands and the home has been on site at least since 1850. That is as far back as I can date it, but someone lived there until 1950. they did some small farming but nothing big. It appears 3 or four acres. I am starting to find pieces of machinery. right now it is a dukes mixture of items. I have found the old wood stove, but it is in pieces. It was kind of fun today I found the place where they either washed their clothes or took a bath. An old tub (partial) sitting on rocks with the old ashes still under it with burned wood. Man the stories that go through your mind...Anything you can help me with I would appreciate it Seldom. Also, I have talked to a few of the older folks and all of them seem to think that it was a camp site as well in the civil war..Now that would be nice:)
Thanks
Chip

Sounds like you got a good site Chip.
I would hunt hard around the foundation and pathways to any outbuildings you can find, If you can find where the outhouse was the path from it to the house may pay off big time.
Grid it out at least in your mine  and hunt the whole area digging every hit.
And the most important thing is remember to keep sharing your finds with us.

Chip,   the button is just too blurry for us to make out the first word.  Is it possible to get either a clearer photo or else a drawing (or rubbing) of the lettering.   Enough of us know the old German lettering to figure it out if we can just see what the first word is.

I'm wondering if your machine piece might be a feeder part of a planting machine? Springloaded tension to control the seed flow perhaps?
