DoldDigger 1950,
Hey thanks man. You've just given me far more info than anyone else that I've asked. Sounds to me that this baby will find just about anything that a man's hunting [ other than a chick Undecided ]
I've been watching both the Garrett and the vintage Coinmaster on ebay and they're pulling some decent change. Think I'll check out the pawn shops around here and see what they may have hiding out. Who knows, may be able to pick up one pretty cheap; especially if they don't know what the old rascal can really do. Grin

Who?

If you have never done a snipe, go here and sign up. Put a maximum bid on your item and the sniper will bid it for you at the last minute.

When you sign up you get 5 free snips to start out. After than, they cost a tiny amount but will win you more auctions because they submit your maximum bid at 6 seconds before the end making it impossible to get caught in a last minute bidding war. You either win or you don't but there's none of this last minute bidding to get you upset and cause you to make stupid mistakes bidding too high.

I've been using them for years now. A great tool. On this detector, try setting it a a maximum bid of $91.47 and see what happens. The newbies on eBay won't know what hit them.

Does anyone know anything at all about this vintage Garrett MD? I do know that it takes 5 9V batteries to run it [ I contacted the seller]. Has anyone ever used one and how easy are they to learn on. Any help and or knowledge would be greatly apprciated .

This is the item on Ebay right now.

This item ended today and brought either $132 or $142 [ I can't remember] + $20.00 shipping; not too shabby for an old dude. Wink

I have the Garrett ADS VLF/TR detector and mine was made in 1985. It takes 6--9volt batteries and mine has a 12" co-planer coil. Mine works fine but it takes alot to adjust the discrimination and get the settings correct. The pinpoint is on the tip of the handle. They do work good but the new ones are much easier to use. I plan on selling mine and buying a Garrett AT Pro to go with my 250 ACE. I do have the original manual if you need any information.

I see that you have an Ace 250. How do you like it and is it worth the money? Just curious; I'm between a new Coinmaster or  an Ace 250.  I like the older machines, but I need something that's more lightweight.

Are you talking about the ADSIII? I have 2 and like them better than the newer ones especially in
heavy trashy areas its all in the sound. I also have 2 Tesoros(stingray and lobo), 2 whites(spectrum and tm 808)
and a minelab(17000)just for the nuggets.

The Ace 250 goes crazy when you get near a coin. I get up to around 8-10" on coins using the Pro-Formance 9x12 coil and find all kinds of stuff. The only problems is that it is very sensitive and gives false readings in the sensitivity is up too high in wet soil or sand and have no volume control. You need earphones with a volume control. Other than that they work great and well worth the money. I have used mine for over a year. Great

Mine just says ADS Deepseeker VLF/TR. I bought it years back and used it quite a bit but could not get the settings where I wanted them. I would sell the beast for $100 if anybody wants it. I just like the lighter machines because I have carpal tunnel in both wrists and too stubborn to get surgery. The thing will pick up everything with the co-planer 12" coils on it.

Warren, Thank you for your honest and informative answers.  I think I'm leaning more towards the Ace 250; I just think it's got more possibilties than the new Coinmaster. My B-day is in a few weeks, so I'll have to wait and see what shows up. LOL Actually, I'm just waiting for my wife to ask me which one I want for my B-day.
You said you have CP in both wrists, that's a bad bummer. I've got it in my right wrist from making too may tee shirts and yeah it really does bother me at times. Plus some other health issues, so I want a light MD, but with the power to do the job.
Mike
