That is a Phoenix on that medallion. THe Phoenix image through the centuries has been used in the occult, Freemasonry AND some believe this symbol represents not the government, but the hidden ruling oligarchy in power of the government. This represents Satanic control that is passed down from generation to generation through history. This is why seemingly disparate organizations have the same emblem of power behind it on a global level. Angry

The holes were probably molded into the medallion in my guestamation.

Sorry to disagree with you on this one GD but I had another look at the two pics those holes are definitely original and not added. It makes me think of a medallion that was riveted to a cap or perhaps sown on a bit like a button and the colour makes me think that it could be pewter and I still think that it was molded.

Regards xavier

I've been looking around and the double headed eagles usually are more gussied up. Seems a phoenix would be, too.

I've drilled holes in coins before and the hole gets a rim of metal which when pounded looks just like what you see. It's not molded.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
