I think the ace 250 is a great machine, and at a reasonable cost.It is easy to learn but like any machine you need to use it to learn how it works. They also have a great warranty ,should you ever need it.

Pinpointing was the greatest problem for me at first. I read somewhere that if you slowly swing the coil towards you until the signal disappears then slowly swing back forward until the signal begins again..The target will be under the inner coil loop.
It works for me. It might just work for you. It took me about a while to pinpoint until I started using that method.

Two things made my Ace 250 work like it should, one was to run the cable straight up the handle to where the first extension starts and then coil it around the shaft up to where it plug into the top. The second most important was to reset the unit to the factory setting by holding the on/off button down until it beeps twice, this made all the difference, before this i was getting all kinds of signals and the pin pointing was not accurate but now its right on, i have been finding so many coins each time out that i can't wait to go hunting at the beach next week, hope this works the same for you it makes it so much more exciting.

Thanks for the tips and all the input. I have tried many methods, but I think the key is like someone mentioned- to have a stable signal.  Good Luck.

Great, Great advice.  I have owned my ACE 250 since 2006. That year I found over 4,000 clad coins with the ACE and nearly 300 silver coins, plus a 6 pound cannon ball.  Not to bad for a cheap,  as some folks call it, detector.

You are so right on all counts that you have posted.  I really like to hunt in all metal, the detector will still sound off for
good targets and what like about hunting in all metal, is the iron signals will be dull sounding.  Of course in a really trashy area, I just hunt in the coin mode.  The only trouble with just the coin mode, is that most rings will now sound off in this mode.  You have to use jewelry mode or all metal to find those really nice ladies rings.

Some folks laugh when I say I found over 4,000 clad coins my first year using this detector, well guess what, I hunt with a partner who found that many clad coins also his first year using the ACE 250.

I can't tell you how many times we have made some of those High Dollar detector's look bad and I own 8 different detectors.  I will never sell my ACE 250.

As you say, listen for those deep signals.  I hope everyone is using a headset while detecting, that's the only way to hear those deep signals.

HH, Ringfinder

Hi Ringfinder

Actually I do not use any commercial machine I never have but I would like to try one some day to see how they compare with the one that I build the way that I see it is that if you want a relatively good machine then you must be prepared to lay out about $ 1200 if you convert that in Rand it?s about R 8000 and that not within my reach at this time in my life.

Regards Xavier          PS yes the previous post was meant for you

OK that sounds interesting.  Being able to build your own Detector.  Really, if you would buy one of the top notch detectors, you would
be looking at around 3 to 4 thousand dollars.  Not in my reach either.  But I know guys who use them very well.  Myself, my most expansive detector is around the $700 or $800 range.  Of course the ACE 250, coming at $212 ain't to bad either.  Great detector for the money and good old Garrett built it for me.  LOL

Best Regards,
Dennis Morrison

Thanks for taking the time to do the write up on the Ace 250. I recently bought one and can use all the helpful hints available. I too get discouraged and then I read all the finds other people have found and it regenerates me! Our areas history is not that old but I have a few spots I've been researching, there's got to be an old coin around here somewhere! lol
